Velma Grace Thomas

With
family at her side, Velma Thomas (93) passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2012.
The daughter of
pioneers, Velma (nee Yost) was born in Swift Current, SK. After attending Normal School in Moose Jaw,
she taught in a one-room schoolhouse for two years, before travelling east to
Winnipeg, then Ottawa. It was in Ottawa that Velma met her husband of 38 years,
(William) Glynn Thomas. After stays in Arnprior, Gananoque, and Kemptville, ON,
Velma and Glynn moved west to Calgary in 1978 to be closer to family. Velma found happiness and friendship through
her involvement with Eastern Star and various church choirs. She loved gardening and reading. Her crowning achievements included the
completion of two family biographies and a children’s storybook. She had an
unwavering spirit in all her pursuits.
Velma was predeceased by Glynn in 1983.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Morrow, North Bay, two children, Marilyn
(Rodger) Logan, Didsbury, Evan Thomas (Ann Eriksson), Peterborough, four grandchildren,
Chris Reid, Stephanie Rakowski, Jason Thomas, Steven Thomas, and six
great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Canadian Diabetes Association, 204, 2323 – 32 Avenue NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 6Z3. The family wishes to thank the staff
on Unit 4, Didsbury Long Term Care, for its outstanding care of Velma over the
past two years.
