Ronning, John Allan
John was born in Kenaston, SK on July 2, 1927. He was the fifth child of Hjalmar and Anna (Anderson) Ronning. John and his family moved to Lumsden, SK in 1943, where John finished high school. In Grade 12, he met someone who became the love of his life, Alice Foster.
John graduated from Business College and went on to acquire his Appraiser's Accreditation. He enjoyed meeting farmers as he worked in Saskatchewan, buying land for the Department of Highways and later in Alberta, working for Mobil Oil's surface department.
He remained active for many years in his retirement and he and Alice were thrilled to have numerous dates with friends and family and to the many activities at Fountains of Mission.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He looked forward to opportunities to play Gin Rummy, Bridge or any other card games. A family gathering always included card games and music. John also loved collecting lighters, stamps and coins and was known as Lighter King in the Collector's Club. Another pleasure in John's life was dancing. In fact, he and Alice met at the Saturday night dance!
John is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Alice; daughters, Inga (Greg) Sample and Barbara (Chris) Asselbergs; his grandchildren, Rob (Anna) Sample, Erik (Nicole) Sample, Tim (Emily) Sample, Doug (Lisa) Asselbergs and Michele Asselbergs-Lockard; and his great granddaughter, Marguerite Sample-Hopkins.

Stu remembers John as a valued colleague at Mobil and good friend. Bill Aitken remembers John's unlimited and interesting lighter samples from his collection that he would bring out at coffee hour following services at Christ Church. John was an enthusiastic and helpful participant at innumerable church rummage sales. John's pleasant and easy going manner was a model to us all. We feel lucky to have known him and will miss him. Stu and Bill Aitken and families.
Dear Alice, My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. John was a wonderful man and a great friend to Mark and I. I have wonderful memories of our card games, and I will treasure those moments. Kind Regards, Shirley
