Joan Marilyn Sutton (nee Harding)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Sutton announce the loss of beloved wife of Ray Sutton, devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. Joan was born and raised in the Aylesford, Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. After graduating from Business College in 1959, she ventured west to Calgary. In 1960 she met and married Garry Pollock and bore two daughters, Kimberley (Rob) Warner (grandchildren, Ronald; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Tegan Smith Warner; and Jeffery, of Calgary. Heather (Greg) Baustad (grandchildren, Jay and Samantha) of Carstairs. In 1977 Joan married Otto Seifert in Calgary and studied German for five years. They opened their home and hearts to his niece, Anette Seifert (Dave) Ball, of Airdrie and nephews, Martin Seifert (Sandra), Bernie (Emilia) Seifert, and Chris (Bea) Seifert, all of Calgary. Also left behind are brother, David (Brenda) Harding of Calgary; newly chosen brother, Steve Ramsay of Didsbury; and chosen sister, Judi Lange of Vancouver Island. Joan was predeceased by her sister, Susan (Dalan) Malbrandt of Calgary. Four years after Otto’s passing she met and married her soul mate, Ray Sutton and they retired to Carstairs in 2001. Joan wrote and published two books: The Mountain Path and Too Scared To Cry. After her stroke in 2013 she wrote and published her third book, Trapped. All her books are at the libraries in Carstairs, Didsbury and Olds. A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at Carstairs Bancroft United Church, 1204 Hammond St, Carstairs, Alberta, on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 2:30pm. I felt sad that Joan left us but am happy that she is no longer trapped. She was a special person with many gifts and talents that she shared generously with us. When we were on committees together she was a true team member and was committed to help the organization and her community. We were so fortunate to have her with us so long. Feelings of empathy were deep for her the five years since 2013 when she was "trapped" with so challenges. We will always remember her with love.
