George Eddie Siemens

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Siemens, of Calgary, Alberta, in La Paz, Mexico, on Jan 26th, 2021, with his children by his side after a very brief illness.
George had a strong but gentle spirit and was well-known for his honesty, high ethical standards, positive outlook, and an unwavering love and commitment to his family. He treated everyone he met with kindness and respect and was also well known for his stubbornness … he finished every project he began with perfection and ensured that it was done his way!
Born in Roland, Manitoba, George was the youngest of four children, and at an early age, knew that he was destined for bigger adventures! He left home at only 15 and soon ventured into seismic exploration in the oil and gas industry. His incredible ambition and adventurous spirit lead him to take his young family to Australia in the mid 1960’s, where they established cherished memories of the areas surrounding Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and eventually, South-East Asia and Hawaii!
After returning to Calgary, George’s entrepreneurial spirit once again blossomed when he started Sound Craft Industries, and later, General Audio (one of Calgary’s best-known high-end audio stores). It was during these years that he formed numerous lifelong friendships with people of similar values and adventurous spirits, and when he was introduced to a real estate opportunity in an authentic Mexican community called El Comitan, just outside of La Paz, Mexico.
La Paz and El Comitan soon became George’s home away from home for cold Canadian winters, and with his Partner Gloria, a place that once again provided him ample opportunities to form close, meaningful relationships. Dozens of people from Canada, the United States, Mexico and elsewhere soon discovered what a wonderful person George was, and with Gloria, they soon created a new extended family that they loved spending time with.
George was also an avid football and hockey fan and he loved to watch his grandsons play hockey or coach them on life’s lessons. He was incredibly proud of the men they grew into.
George is lovingly remembered by his children, Elizabeth (Darren) Morgan, Darrell (Beverly) Siemens; and by his grandsons, Jeremy (Janelle) Dow, Levi (Noelle) Dow and Kellan (Faith) Fitzmartyn; as well as his three great-grand children, Kashus, Mila and Ronin.
George will also be deeply missed by his Partner, Gloria Kane; and her, children, Kim, Kevin (Anita), Jim (Chris), and Kelly (Kelly), and their extended families.
George was a privately Spiritual man and was not afraid to meet His Lord.

A private family service will be held soon, and a Celebration of George’s life will be planned when family and friends are able to travel and attend.Messages:

Dear Gloria and George's family, We were are happy to have enjoyed 10 years of friendship with George and you, Gloria as La Paz neighbors. We will truly miss his delightful smiles, warmth and wit. George was one smart fellow: he knew more about many thigs than we knew there was to know and was so generous in using his knowledge to help others. He will be missed, but we are comforted to think of him setting off on a new and grand adventure.

Liz, Darrell, Gloria and families, Dave and I are so sorry for your loss. We are so honored to have had our friendship with George for the last 20 years. He was honest and sincere, and always so optimistic, qualities that everybody dreams their partners, parents and children will have. I met George as a 13 year old boy skipping school in the mid 80's checking out audio gear on 4th Street in Calgary. I regularly came to his shop and still have equipment he sold me in my house to this day. Initially I came to look at the amps and CD players but after a while I would take the #3 bus to General Audio because I just enjoyed talking to the man. He was funny, and honest and kind. "Generous George" he would say rolling his eyes as he figured out how much to charge me for some used cables that he would just give me (still have those too). When my mother passed 20 years ago he came to the funeral. I hadn't seen him in almost five years since I left Calgary and in the chaos of hand shaking and condolences I wasn't able to say more than "Thank you". After searching online I have discovered that he has passed. I have so much I want to say but I just wish I got to talk to him one more time. I miss him.
