Anne Sierra

January 11th, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our precious Mom and Nana.

Anne passed away in Crossfield the morning of Monday, January 11, 2021 peacefully in her home surrounded by love.

We battled her journey of Alzheimers with her the last few years. She taught us to love unconditionally and will be admired for her incredible strength, gentle and loving nature. She was special to everyone and touched the hearts of so many people. She always loved a good laugh and a good full Martini!

She was born in Northern Ireland and came to Canada in 1973 with her husband and two young children. She lived a full life working and travelling abroad before she settled. She devoted herself to her family and had the most incredible love for us all, especially her four grandchildren. We were blessed to have her help raise them. She was always so proud as she watched them grow into adults and of course spoil them rotten along the way.

She was everyone's Nana and a special Aunty Nan.

She was raised in a beautiful family of 7 sisters and 2 brothers. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio; mother, Elizabeth; father, Thomas; 2 brothers, George and Thomas; sisters, Edith, May, Sarah and Joan.

She will be always in the hearts of her remaining family and lovingly remembered by her 2 children, Nicholas Sierra (Jennifer Weir), Jane Johnston; son-in-law, Danny Johnston who loved her so dearly; her grandchildren, Christopher, Joscelyn, Emma and Sarah; her sisters, Margaret, Evelyn and Isa; as well as so many special nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

We would like to thank Shirley and Gay for caring for Nana with such dedicated love and dignity right till she took her last breath.

Dr. Briggs for her dedicated care to Mom and our family. Also, a special thanks to the Airdrie Community Paramedics who showed such compassion and helped us keep her comfortable in our home in her last days.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimers Society in hopes this devastating disease can be better researched and provide the necessary support to other families. www.alzheimercalgary.ca

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Messages:

This is a niece of Anne extending my sorrow today on 1st anniversary of her death . I'm a daughter of her sister May who predeceased her. Sadly, we did lose touch over years and I therefore only recall Jane and Nicholas as very young cousins on a visit to Northern Ireland I fondly remember walks with Auntie Anne or Nan as we affectionally knew her. She was exceedingly glamorous and beautiful . I'm so sorry to her children (my cousins) and everyone who had pleasure of loving and knowing her. She was a beautiful person and may memories of her presence and life radiate joy.

Jane I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was the best. I have such great memories of going over to your house, and your mom preparing us tea. She was a lovely woman and I am glad to have those memories.

Jane, Danny, Sarah, Emma, Nick, Joey and Christopher our thoughts and prayers are with you for the loss of your dear mum and Nana. Rest In Peace my beautiful Irish friend, my family and her family became friends when we were both new to Canada and we both came from Northern Ireland. I agree with my sons comments. She will live in our hearts forever. Lots of love Anne and Ian

My heart and prayers are with you all. Anne was my dear friend for more than 50 years. My husband and I met Anne and Antonio in Salcombe, England where we all became friends. I miss her so much, and my heart is broken. We shared many evenings together, cooking, drinking a martini, and laughing. Anne had the best sense of humour. She was one of the strongest people that I have ever met, she was a hard worker and a great mother, she made sure her children never wanted for anything. Anne adored her Grandchildren, she was a very special lady. Rest in piece my lovely friend❤️

Nick, Jane. We were very sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I (mark) have soooo many great memories of her, she will live on in my heart for ever. Take care and know that we are all thinking of you in this time of sadness. Mark and Sherry Brown
