Tyler Barrett Sifton
1984 - 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our son and brother, Tyler Barrett Sifton of Okotoks, AB. Tyler made his transition peacefully with his family at his bedside at Foothills Hospital, in Calgary, AB on September 8, 2021, at the age of 36. Tyler was born September 12, 1984 in Calgary, AB to Karen and Ron Sifton of Cowley, AB. He moved to Okotoks in 2010. Ty graduated from Foothills Academy in 2003 and achieved his IT training at CDI College in Calgary. He worked in IT Support and Security for Newalta Corporation for several years.
Ty faced his life bravely and with fierce determination and independence, tackling many significant health and physical disability issues. He was an inspiration to many, simply by how he lived his life, never expecting sympathy or special treatment.
Ty enjoyed playing wheelchair sports, especially racing and sledge hockey. He excelled in racing, competing across Canada, Dubai and winning medals at the Canada Western Games in both Prince Albert, Sask. and Sherwood Park, AB. Tyler was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed traveling. Spending time at the family cottage in Tie Lake, BC was an all time favourite for Ty where he excelled at driving the family boat and made numerous life long friends. He loved animals, had a quick sense of humour, enjoyed a lively discussion, was generous, very private, non judgemental, and had unlimited patience.
In addition to his loving parents, Karen and Ron, Tyler will be dearly missed by his brothers, Shaun Sifton (Michelle Lemmens) of Calgary, Adam (Emily) Sifton of Sherwood Park, AB, Nathan Sifton (Natalie Shandera) of Airdrie, AB; grandfather Dale Sifton of Calgary, AB; nephews Curtis Sifton, Oscar Sifton: nieces Violet Sifton, Ariel Sifton; Gay Pagalilauan (Philippines), aunts, uncles, cousins, our Tie Lake family, and his beloved cat Mystic. Tyler was predeceased by his grandparents Amy and Vernon Hallick of Calgary, AB, grandmother Doris Sifton of Calgary, AB; and infant niece Anita Doris Sifton of Airdrie, AB. He was also met with loving paws by Molly, Kane, Foxy, Buck, Sara, Duke, Kayley and several family cats and birds.
