Dad passed away peacefully at Langley Lodge feeling the love of his family, that he so richly deserved. Dad was everything a father should be, loving, patient, and so very kind. He wasn’t just a Dad to his children, but to so many young people throughout his life. Husband, Father, Uncle, Coach, Mentor, many names, for the same role. Whether Dad was coaching sports, mentoring at his machine shop, or just being the wonderful family man he was, he was a role model and a hero to many young men along the way. As well as a devoted father, Art was a loving husband to Lavern for 57 years, before her passing in 2010. They showed us what a supportive and loving relationship should be.
Art was a huge sports fan his whole life, he knew all the stats for all the hockey players, and where they played as juniors, or sometimes earlier. He was a true fan of the Vancouver Canucks, and loved hosting the family hockey pool every year, where he always picked the best team! He also loved football and was a long time season ticket holder to the BC Lions. His love of baseball was legendary in North Delta, where he coached and umpired for many years, and contributed to the community with his kindness, fairness and easy going nature.
Predeceased by his wife Lavern, his son Toby (1977) and his twin sister Ruby Menunzio (2019).
He leaves behind his loving daughters Pam (Elton) and Shelley (John), granddaughters Nikki, Lexie and Stephanie, as well as his devoted nephew Duane Wright. In addition, he is mourned by many friends and family.
Following Mom’s passing in 2010, Dad was so happy to meet and enjoy many wonderful years with Joan, who we are so grateful to for the joy she brought to Dad’s later years.
Art remained his true self to the end, and Pam and Shelley are grateful to the nursing staff at Langley Lodge, who took such good care of him, but also allowed him to be the bright light that he was. Everyone who met or cared for him in those last few months at the Lodge were touched by his kindness, warmth, and love of a good laugh. A special Thank you to Liz, Sophie and Michele for their warm companionship.
Please join us for a celebration of Art’s life at The Lions Seniors Hall 23022 88th Avenue, Fort Langley, on September 7 at 2:00 pm.
