Glen Edwards

Glen Edwards, a cherished father, brother, partner, and esteemed chief warrant officer, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, at the age of 77 with his devoted partner Susan Shattock by his side. Glen and Susan enjoyed a loving relationship of over 22 years. Born in Newfoundland, Glen's life was marked by his dedication to his country and his family.

Glen grew up in Newfoundland and Ottawa with his sisters Marilyn Milton and Sandra (deceased) and his brother Wayne. He was predeceased by his parents John and Anne.

He leaves behind his daughters Melissa, Alison, Robyn, and their mother Lorraine, his son Stephen (Elise), and his mother Beverly. Glen will also be fondly remembered by his stepdaughters Kathleen and Meghan (Matthew).

As a beloved grandfather, he will be dearly missed by Ryan, Caitlyn, Alexis, Alyssa, Daemon, William, and Oliver.

Glen was a devoted father who imparted his love for driving by teaching all his children how to operate a manual transmission and gifting them their first car. He lived by the principle that a father is not an anchor nor a sail, but a guiding light whose love shows the way. This ethos was reflected in how he led his life and nurtured his relationships. His quick wit and funny “dad jokes” will be deeply missed.

From a young age, Glen committed himself to a distinguished career in the Canadian military both overseas and in Canada. He joined the forces as a young man and demonstrated unwavering dedication and skill. His career was highlighted by his rise to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, where he excelled in his chosen trade of Weapon’s Technician and earned the respect and admiration of his peers.

After his military service, he settled in BC and spent many years driving school and coach buses. Glen also spent several years in Fort McMurray, where he was highly respected and cherished. Glen was proud and delighted to be a driver for Chilliwack Community Services, driving people to appointments and becoming friends.

Glen's passion for exploration was evident in his love for long motorcycle rides and road trips across Canada. He believed in the freedom of the road and the lessons it taught. A skilled craftsman and builder, Glen also took pride in creating and renovating numerous homes, always in search of a new place to call home. The final house he built in Newfoundland was a testament to his roots and craftsmanship, marking a full circle in his journey of life. While he may not have had the chance to settle in his final home in Newfoundland, it is there that he will now eternally rest.

The family is incredibly grateful for the wonderfully kind and compassionate care Glen received as well as the support given to Susan at the Agassiz Seniors Community. Many staff will miss Glen’s “Thank you, darling” or “Thank you, sweetheart” and his charming ways and smile.

The family will be receiving visitors at the Clubhouse at 45175 Wells Road from 2-4pm on Wednesday July 31. Parking is available in the church parking lot next door.

Glen's legacy will continue to inspire and guide his loved ones, just as the lighthouse guides the ships at sea.

Melissa, Allison, Robyn, Stephen: I am so saddened to have learned of your Dads passing in July. Being Glens neighbor here in the Valley, I feel like I know you all. You kids were his life for sure!! He was so proud to talk about each of you. His careers too he boasted of. As I read his obituary, I could not but think but whoever wrote it, described Glen well. His love for NL was indescribable. He certainly loved it here and it makes sense that this be his final resting spot.
