Sigrid Erna Hildburg Borchardt - June 30, 2022
December 27, 1934 – June 30, 2022
It was with a heavy heart the family of Sigrid Borchardt announce her passing in the morning of June 30, 2022 at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
Sigrid is survived by her husband of 66 years, Horst Borchardt, and her daughter, Barbara Borchardt, nephew, Jacob Kelly-Borchardt and niece, Emily Kelly-Borchardt. She is also survived by her half-brother Klaus Dolemeyer and his wife, Karin Dolemeyer and children Katrin and Frank Dolemeyer. Sigrid is now with her son, Michael Borchardt, who passed on earlier this year.
Sigrid was born in Arnswalde, Germany and came to Canada in 1956. She travelled to Montreal by ship and then continued her travels to Vancouver by train. There she met up with her husband to be, Horst Borchardt, who had travelled to Canada the year before.
Sigrid married her husband Horst Borchardt on June 22, 1956 in Vancouver, BC. Sigrid then worked 8 years at Buckerfield’s in Vancouver before becoming pregnant with her first child, Barbara, where she was told it was unbecoming to have a pregnant woman in the office. How times have changed. Sigrid loved children and having a family was very important to her and her son, Michael Borchardt, followed soon after her first born.
Sigrid came from a family of learners. Her father was an English teacher thus education was always encouraged. Sigrid was an avid learner and a creative at heart. She could sew, bake, crochet, knit, macramé, needlepoint and was also a voracious reader on all topics and an avid gardener. Sigrid was a gentle soul. She was conservative and reserved to many, but outspoken and spirited on matters near and dear to her. Her kind, gentle and loving nature will be missed.
As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
