Maureen Annette Hawley

 Maureen Annette Hawley passed away in Palliative Care, at The Pasqua, on Saturday, January 22nd. Her husband was holding her hand when she took her last breath. Maureen had suffered with Alzheimer's Disease for a few years and her passing was from complications related to the Alzheimer's.

 She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Hawley, in 1979, her father, Harry Irwin in 2000 and her mother, Yezda Irwin (Haynee) in 2004. She is survived by her sister Colleen Crossley of Toronto (Jack), their children Kim and Justin, her sister Angie Magel (Gerry) of Duval, Saskatchewan, her husband Rod McDonald, her three sons Bryan Hawley of Calgary (Ashley) and Maureen's granddaughter, Makenna, son Maxwell Hawley of Regina and son Patrick Hawley of Regina (Lisa) and Maureen's granddaughter Rayanna, as well as her special cousin, Lona Haynee of Regina.

 Maureen attended Haultain Public School, Central Collegiate, and graduated as an RN in June of 1965 at The Regina General. She worked at The Hospital for Sick Children and The Clark in Toronto as well as The General Hospital in Regina.

 In 1981, she entered the field of social work investigating abuse of children. In 1989, she began her Social Work degree, part time, at The University of Regina, graduating in 1996 with her BSW. She retired in 2006.

 In 1999, Maureen, along with her husband Rod, started The Regina Knot-a-Fringe Festival which eventually became The Regina International Fringe Festival. She remained a part of The Fringe until 2009, travelling for five summers on The Fringe Circuit.

 She was active in The Regina Ladies Choir, The Amici Choir, The Norman Mackenzie Art Gallery, The Society of Friends (Quakers), The Unitarian Centre and the last couple of years with Wesley United.

 She was involved with yoga for close to sixty years and loved attending the downtown YMCA. When the weather was nice, she walked around Wascana Lake, sometimes twice a day. She was incredibly fit until the very end.

 Maureen was always known for her big smile, her acceptance of others and her gracious hospitality. Many people regarded her as a good friend moments after meeting her. She was filled with that much warmth.

 Maureen's family was everything to her. She loved unconditionally her husband, her three sons, her two daughters-in-law and was exceptionally proud of her two granddaughters. She had many friends including some for fifty years including Maureen Kolot, Joan Crate, Gayle White, Sandra Blenkinsop, Susan Hogarth and Olive Deeton.

 Maureen had a special place in her heart and her life for her beloved Shiatzu, Maggie. Maggie adored her 'mom'.

 While the family grieves the loss of Maureen, they are relieved that Maureen no longer suffers Alzheimer's which was causing her much anguish.

 The family wishes to thank the staff of Palliative Care for their kind treatment of Maureen in her last eight days of life.

 Maureen chose cremation and asked that her ashes be scattered back to nature. The family is planning a memorial service in June which was her favourite month.
