Joseph Clifford Thompson

April 3rd, 2018

It is with great sorrow the family of Clifford Thompson announces his sudden passing at the age of 63 on Tuesday April 3, 2018 with his loving wife Rita by his side.

Cliff was born on February 27, 1955 in Sedgewick, Alberta as the eldest of 9 children. He grew up in the area, later meeting and marrying the love of his life Rita in 1986. Cliff and Rita spent time in Blackfalds, Grande Prairie, Spruce Grove and Red Deer before settling down in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.

Cliff spent his whole career working in the oilfield industry within a variety of roles and companies. Most recently, as Operations Manager of Advantage Valve Maintenance in Sylvan Lake. He was extremely loyal and dedicated to his job and truly enjoyed what he did. During his work over the years, he made some life long connections and they will miss him dearly.

Anyone who knew Cliff knew of his passion for golf. He could often be found on the course or driving range trying to perfect his game. He also enjoyed camping, especially just off a golf course. Cliff also liked to fish and travelling to warmer climates and enjoyed catching the odd sport on tv such as curling, hockey and golf. Cliff was passionate about music, attending many concerts over the years, sometimes twice. He was also extremely proud of capturing his uniqueness in his many tattoos.

Cliff was a social man and enjoyed the company of many different people. He had no problem striking up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, anytime. He had such a kind heart and loved a good laugh. Cliff adored his grandchildren, they were his focus and had a special part in his world. He was always talking about them, what they were doing and accomplishing, he truly loved every minute he got to spend with them.

Cliff will be lovingly remembered and severely missed by his wife, Rita, their fur babies Cita and Hoover. His son Greg Thompson & his wife Barb, son Brent Youngs & his wife Bonnie, daughter Renee Youngs and his grandchildren Parker & Cali Thompson, and Branton Olfert. His brothers Darrell (Shannon), Ron, Clarence (Layle), Kenny (Trish) and sisters Margaret Thompson, Yvonne Harris, Tracy (Leroy) Ekman, brother in law Ron Mercier (Debbie) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and June Thompson, in laws Rene and Dorothy Mercier and his brother Brian Thompson.

A celebration of Cliff’s life will be held Thursday April 12th from 1-3pm at the Sylvan Lake Legion Branch 212, 4916-50 Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Cliff’s name to the Children’s Wish foundation at www.childrenswish.ca

Rita, Even though we have never met my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The time I got to spend with Cliff was enjoyable, educational, and everlasting. I understand that he cared deeply about his family and furry friends. I will miss my Sylvan lake buddy. I hope peace finds your heart. PS. Keep those Christmas cards coming, and thanks for thinking of us.

My dear old friend Rita, as Cliff was married to you, then he had a happy, fun filled life. It never gets easier, just seems to hurt a little less, but do not hurry, time, will dictated when you may stop grieving, if ever, and let no one tell you different. May God watch over you, and family. All my Love Valerie.

So sorry for your loss I've known Cliff most of his life he was the same age as my son and was always a very nice person. Thinking of you and your family peace and love. Jeanette Harris
