Ella McMullen
April 8th, 2019
Ella Annie Lilly Lepera McMullen (Smith) passed peacefully in her sleep from heart failure on Monday, April 8, 2019 in the Red Deer Regional Hospital at age 87 years.
Ella was born on February 29, 1932 in Fort St. John, B.C. to Louis and Lilan (Rider) Smith. Born on a leap year came with special opportunities as to which day to celebrate when the year didn’t have her birthdate. A lot of fun was had by all.
Ella married Harold McMullen in 1952 and had six children. They were well liked wherever they lived. Family and friends were always welcome. Harold passed in 2003.
Ella, in her words, “lived a long and good life”. All that knew her admired her positive attitude and sweet loving nature, especially towards her family. She remained light-spirited, fun-loving and willing to help whenever possible. During the past year Ella was frequently in the hospital. Many of us were blessed with having the opportunity to express our love towards her during that time. She will be greatly missed by all.
Ella is survived by five children, Dianne (Ted (deceased)) Horvath of Stettler, Valerie (Leo) Deschamps of Red Deer, Christine (Gordon) Neilsen of Red Deer, Carol (Denis Lepage) McMullen of Red Deer and Darren (Michelle) McMullen of Fox Creek; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and sister Lily Miller. She was predeceased by parents, husband Harold; son, Brian; four siblings, Bill, Harry, Charlie and Muriel, and several other extended family members.
Ella’s Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 1:00 pm in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd, Red Deer, Alberta. Fellowship and refreshments will be available at the Church after the service.
Interment will be done by the family on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Bruce Cemetery. Fellowship and refreshments for family and friends will follow at the Bruce Community Centre, south Seniors Area.
Valerie and Leo: We are so sorry about the loss of your mother, Valerie. I met her only a few times but was impressed with her beautiful smile and sweet spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Hugs.
