Dreeshen, Mildred Grace

September 22, 1927 - May 23, 2022

Mildred Grace Dreeshen, (nee Domoney), passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the age of 94 years.

Mildred will be lovingly remembered by her children, Don Dreeshen, Ted (Donna) Dreeshen and Crystal Dreeshen.

Mildred’s life and legacy is fondly cherished by her six grandchildren, Nathan Dreeshen, Ivan (Madison) Dreeshen, Tricia (Rob) Simpson, Jennifer (Matt) Ferguson, Damon (Stephany) Dreeshen, and Erin VanHousen. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Cleary, Paige and Jaxon Simpson, James, Ian, Joshua and Tyler Ferguson and Luna Dreeshen. Mildred is also survived by her sister, Wilma (Lawrence) Barany; brother-in-law, Frank Allen; and numerous nephews, nieces, neighbours and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Dreeshen; and her siblings, Annie, George and Eugene.

Mildred was born on September 22, 1927 to Leonard and Grace Domoney. She was raised on her family farm in the Edwell District. On July 13, 1948, she married the love of her life, Joe Dreeshen. They adored one another and were blessed to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in 2018.

Mildred loved her life on the farm. She thrived in the outdoors and passed on this love to her family. Mildred was known for her large, bountiful garden, taking long walks and drawing inspiration from nature to write poetry, songs and children’s books. Many will remember Mildred as a teacher. She used her creativity and love for children to serve at her church by teaching Sunday School. She even scripted and performed puppet shows to share relevant and meaningful lessons to the young learners. Further, Mildred had a constant desire to continue to grow and learn well into her adult years. She was never afraid to try new things. She enrolled in college courses, learned to use a computer and even tackled self-publishing. She took up cross country skiing, mountain biking and lane swimming when she was in her sixties. Mildred had a real knack for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. Neighbours enjoyed many visits with Mildred on the side of the road during one of her many walks, or over a friendly game of bridge. To her grandchildren, Mildred was the absolute best. She always had adventures planned, whether rolling down a hill, hunting for crocus’ and buffalo beans, camping in the little motorhome, playing games or reciting nursery rhymes. She could even make homework fun for her grandchildren who were sometimes reluctant learners. Mildred was the Grandma of all Grandmas.

Sadly, one of Mildred’s greatest gifts, her memory, began to fade at the age of 82. Even throughout all the hardships that Alzheimer’s presented, Mildred did not complain. She leaned on Joe, who was a devoted and loving caregiver until his passing. She lived her final years at Villa Marie Covenant Care Centre in Red Deer.

A Funeral Service in memory of Mildred will be held at 1:00 pm, on Monday, May 30th, 2022 at the Pine Lake Crossroads Agricultural Society. Internment to follow at the Pine Lake Cemetary. A luncheon after the internment will allow time for fellowship and connection to share memories of a life well lived.
