It is with deep, deep mixed emotions of great sadness but a peacefulness which surrounds Butch after his long brave battle of cancer. Butch was born in Owen Sound, ON where he spent his early years. Many of Butch’s last days were spent sharing awesome memories of his life with family and friends. The careers Butch chose were power engineer working on the ships in the Great Lakes and the St Lawrence Seaway. When Butch left the ships he chose a career in mining in B.C. and the NWT. He became a Hoist Operator while working in the mines. Butch was very much involved with the union. He was VP of the Steelworkers for many years in Yellowknife. Upon leaving Yellowknife the family relocated to Slave Lake, AB. His careers in Alberta were at Weyerhaeuser, Petro Canada (Ft Mac) Tolko and Enercan as a Power Engineer. Butch enjoyed many activities: Hunting, fishing, boating, camping, horseshoes, coaching and playing darts. Butch loved to entertain and was a wonderful host to family friends.
Butch is lovingly remembered by his mother, Freeda Eden; his loving wife, Maureen of 29 years; daughters, Carrie (Brent) McIntyre, Sherri Eden, Shannon Slater, Stefanie Slater (son-in-law, Kelly Dobson); son, Sean (Tina) Eden; brother, Rick (Kim) Eden; sisters, Suzanne (Roger) Montpetit, Marilyn (Paddy) Wakeham and Carol King (Aunt); also his grandchildren, Tonya Andrews, (Tristian Landry) Peyton Doherty, Chelsea McIntyre, Hayden and Hailey Dobson, Aden and Trent Eden; great grandchildren, Grayson and Jordan Landry; brothers-in-law, Ken(Estelle) Doherty, Terry(Nola) Doherty; sister-in-laws, Shirley Laughlin, Donna (Jim) Hiuser, Patia (Pete) Schacht, Kathy Poworozynk; and many nieces nephews and cousins. Butch is predeceased by his father, Archie Eden; uncle, Bob King; and brother-in-law, John Laughlin.
Butch gave freely only Life’s Treasured Gifts to his family and friends daily. He will always be cherished and missed.
Our family would like to thank the Earthly Angels of the Red Deer Hospice Society, EMS, Home Care, M.A.I.D program, Red Deer Hospital Palliative Hospice, Dr. Martin(Slave Lake) Pastor Ken and Dr. Hackett, Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services for giving Butch Life’s Treasured Gifts freely throughout his illness. Our family greatly appreciates each of you.
