Glyn Thomas Wileman

WILEMAN, Glyn

August 31, 1939 to January 25, 2022

On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, Glyn Wileman passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre after a very brief illness with his family by his side.

Glyn was born in Russell, Manitoba on August 31, 1939. He attended school in Endcliffe, MB and Russell, MB until he decided that scholarly ways were not for him at which time, in 1956, he travelled to Thompson, MB where he began working as a heavy equipment operator. From there, his skills and love for heavy equipment, particularly the D8 CAT, took him to many places in Western Canada of which his favorites included Churchill, MB and Swan Hills, AB. During this time, in 1961 and 1962, some of his proudest accomplishments were his contributions to the construction of the highways into the Canada Tungston and Cassier Asbestos mines in the Yukon and Northern British Columbia.

Probably the single most important event in Glyn’s life was meeting the love of his life, Bobbi, in 1961. Three short years later, in 1964, they married and began the most beautiful journey of love and devotion that was quite frankly, the envy of all who knew them. From that moment on, one would rarely see one without the other, and if you did, it was a very rare occasion!

In preparation for their life ahead, Glyn put all of his construction savings to good work and purchased the farm in Harrowby, MB, where he and Bobbi would spend the next 55 years undertaking grain, cattle and lastly, and most importantly, PMU farming, where their daily work allowed them to be fulfilled by their endless love of horses.

In 1965, they welcomed the birth of their first child, Duane, who sadly died in a tragic farm accident only one and one half years later. In 1968 and 1970, they welcomed the birth of their two daughters Glynis and Jodi, respectively.

In 2019, Glyn and Bobbi moved from the farm to Red Deer, Alberta to be closer to family and to participate in the daily life of their only granddaughter, Jorgie.

Plain and simple…Glyn loved people…anyone…period…dear friend or a complete stranger…it did not matter.  He had the uncanny ability to learn the life story of a stranger in less than 10 minutes and secure a lifelong friendship within the next five.  He was fascinated by the lives and stories of people near and far and more importantly, his genuine interest in people drew them to him as much as he was drawn to them.

Glyn is lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Bobbi; his daughters, Glynis and Jodi (Todd); and his only granddaughter, Jorgie. He is predeceased by his son, Duane; his father, Wilmot; his mother, Sarah; his sisters, Dolf and Nan; and his brothers, Bill and Maldwyn (Moose).

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Pimm, Dr. Helson and the many wonderful nurses and staff of Unit 22 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Glyn’s last wishes were that his ashes be buried next to his son, Duane, in Russell, Manitoba. The family has chosen to have a grave side service and Celebration of Life at a later time during the summer of 2022.
