Henry Vanderleest
December 24th, 2019
A terrific husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Henry was born in Menaldum, Holland to Geert and Trijntje van der Leest. He is survived by his brother Dick (Tineke), his sister Jelly, and predeceased by sisters Teena and Colby. When he was 18, his mother encouraged him to come to Canada. He moved to Canada and began a life that was built upon the many values he lived by: strength of character, honesty, hard-work, family and kindness. After he arrived in Truax Saskatchewan, he met Sabine Beingessner and it forever changed their lives. For the next 66 years Hank was an amazing husband and a wonderful dad to Terry (Joyce), Joseph (Mary), Brandi, Chris (Art), Marianne and Henry (Judy). He was predeceased by his son-in-law Allan. He is very fondly remembered by his many grandchildren: Gillian, Monnell, Justin, Lindsay, Christi, Whitney, Jesse, Drew, Rihana, Nicole, Calvin and a handful of great-grandchildren. Henry will be forever missed by his wife Sabine, his family here and in Holland but also by his many dear friends.
Henry was an ambitious man that believed if you worked hard you would succeed. When younger he drove semi-trailers and started a dairy farm and then transitioned to grain farming. He instilled many of his values in his children and grandchildren. He took time to have enjoyment and balance in life. Over the years he was a boxer, skater, soccer player, dancer, fisherman and a hunter. Henry’s other passion was hunting with his greyhound dogs.
Hours were spent fishing in his retirement years on Lake Diefenbaker and Last Mountain Lake.
On Tuesday, December 24, 2019, Henry Vanderleest passed away surrounded by family at the age of 89 years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the new building at Ross Machine Shop, 40 Kress Street, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Henry may be made to the Smiles Foundation (www.smilesfoundation.org).
