Albert Edward Thomas

October 17th, 2020

Albert (Al) Thomas was born on a farm near Aylesbury, SK and was not expected to survive at birth. However, he surpassed all the doctor's expectations and thrived.  As a youth Al joined the army reserves. He worked at Safeway for over 30 years, starting as a clerk and working his way up to Store Manager.

Volunteering was an important part of Al’s life. He happily dedicated his time and efforts to the Regina Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, his church and to the North East Community Centre. He also served as the president of the Northgate Walker's Club and volunteered as a board member with FGBMF. Hunting and fishing became a passion for Al. He enjoyed deer and bear hunting with a bow and arrow and spent many hours fishing with his family. Al was a hard worker and accomplished much in the time God gave him. He was a committed Christian serving his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Beloved husband to his wife Mary of 59 years. Loving father to his daughter Anita and sons Calvin (Shannon) and Scott (Phyllis). He was the proud grandpa to Leah (Michael), Barbara (Mark), John (Melanie), Alex (Nicole), Shea Lynn, Lincoln and Pierson; great-grandfather to Jack, Emmet, Paige, Ruth, Jessica, Anna, Abby, Esther and Danielle.  Albert was predeceased by his parents Mary and Andrew Thomas, granddaughter Nadine and sister-in-law Ione. He is survived by his brother Arnold and sisters Patricia and Sharon (Ken).

There will be a private celebration of life service (live streaming of the service will be available at: https://www.hillsdaleregina.ca/funeral starting at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020). Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation in Memory of Albert Thomas. https://www.hrf.sk.ca/

Our very sincerest deepest condolences to Mary and family on your loss of Albert. Cousin Sandra & Robert, Calgary, Alberta

2020 has been a rollercoaster for many, but one good thing that came out of it for me, was being able to have time off to go to Saskatchewan and spend it with the Thomas Family. I was welcomed with open arms by Al and I got to hear him tell me his stories and see his history. I got to laugh at his jokes and see how playful he is through pinochle and modelling the same deer onesie as me. I got to see how observant he was when he barely knew me yet could read my face when I was too shy to ask for more ice cream, and he doesn't know I applied to electrical school, but I have the honour of been given his steel toe boots which I will wear proudly. I am so lucky to have known Al and be part of his family. May he rest in peace, love Nicole.

sincere condolences to Mary and family on the loss of your beloved husband and father. I always used to look forward to seeing you and Al at the Superstore, when I visited in Regina. So very sorry for your loss.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of AL. I enjoyed him as President of the Northgate Senior Walkers. So sorry Mary and family. God's Blessing to you all in these trying times.

Mary, Cal & Shannon and family: It is such a small world as they say - after spending time with Al on the North Zone Board, I connected with you, Mary, at a Forever in motion workshop and in chatting, we came to realize that we had a connection via children; our son and your grandson Alex were good friends at Dr. Perry; thus how we got to meet you, Cal & Shannon. Our youngest son's middle name Alexander was chosen by Colby to honour his kindergarten buddy Alex! Long story short: we will always have a connection to your family and hold you in our thoughts especially at this time. Al was tireless in his energy for community. What a wonderful legacy. Best, Marci & Dale Brisbourne

The North Zone Recreation Board extends sincere condolences to Al's family. His passion for making a difference was evident in his time on the Board and his service in the name of community for many, many years was an example for all! Rest in peace, Al. Sincerely, North Zone Board
