Messages of Condolence
My condolences to the Callin family. From Norma (Callin) Fredlund's granddaughter. ~ TAMARA GOEBEL
I was fortunate enough to have worked with Jamie at Sask Tel for a number of years and enjoyed his company and humour. I also continued to see him occasionally when visiting Regina. He will certainly be missed. ~ Bryan Williamson
A true friend. He will be sorrily missed. S.P. will not be the same without him. Rest in peace buddy. You were taken far too soon. ~ William Caird
I’ll miss the conversations with Jamie while on the trails adjacent to the Regina Wildlife Federation. He did much behind the scenes as transplanting trees he had salvaged from his city neighbours, checking memberships, and quietly reminding shooters about safety. Jamie transformed many cedar boards from the firewood pile into his re-creations of wooden boxes. Done with hand tools and stencils - these boxes became his “works of art”. Jamie often spoke of his southern Saskatchewan prairie “cabin” and its nearby historic tree plantings. ~ Merle Boyle
I think I can speak for a lot of the technical people when I say Jamie was one of the smartest and most helpful technicians at SaskTel. His memory for technical details was extensive. We did ask for his assistance quite a bit on the more complex analog troubles back in the olden days and he was always willing to help us "young" techs out. And he did have quite the sense of humour as well. I used to ride the bus home with him from work quite often and he had some pretty humourous stories to tell. Some not appropriate to tell here ...lol. Made me laugh quite a bit anyways. My condolences to the Callin Family. ~ Shane Grassing
Sorry to hear of your passing. I worked with you for almost 20 years. There was many a Data trouble that I had to rely on your expertise for and you always willing to help. I hope you are at peace now and living in perpetual light in heaven. ~ Steve P.Nagy
As a Brother and friend I will miss him dearly. Whenever I had an issue with some technical issue of any kind I would phone him and he would have some idea to solve it. Over the last years I would phone him at least twice a week and say Dr Helmut phoning for your weekly checkup and he would have his little chuckle. I was fortunate to have him as a Brother in my life. It is going to be a while to get over his loss.Whenever I came to visit we woulld find some little trip to go on. ~ Helmut Callin
Around 1980 it was Jamie who introduced me to the sport of practical pistol shooting, coached me in shooting skills and above all in safety, and qualified me to shoot my first match. We competed in many matches together, had many conversations about the sport. I was always impressed by his ability, his analytical mind and high intelligence. He was quiet-spoken but every word he spoke was worth listening to. I saw Jamie less in later years but whenever I did we could talk as comfortably as if we had met every day. I'm so sorry he has passed and will think of him often, with respect and admiration. ~ Dave Anderson
I was privileged to get to know Jamie just a little bit, over the last few years - he reached out to me after discovering my artwork online - he was searching for Lake Alma, it happened to be mentioned in one of my paintings. From then on he was so encouraging, he shared stories of family history and made connections - remembering his childhood in SE Sask… he became a friend I hoped to meet one day. I was very saddened to read that he had passed, I will treasure his messages and also the prints of his drawings that he sent to me. I want to send my condolences to the family… from the little I knew him he was so kind, funny, a very special man. ~ Lauren Daae
