Evelyn Filson
April 29th, 2022
It is with great sadness and sincere gratitude that we announce the passing of Evelyn Filson on Friday, April 29, 2022 leaving her lengthy battle with MS behind.
Evelyn is survived by her parents Ewald and Erika; brother Gordon; children Erika and Adam; and granddaughters Natalia and Mira
Evelyn was born on November 15, 1956 in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she spent most of her life. She was an accomplished entrepreneur, an Accredited Business Communicator, and a fierce advocate for excellence in education.
While neither an equestrian like her daughter, nor a fisherman like her son, Evelyn showed interest in both activities, supporting her children in their passions. While she had trepidation about becoming a grandmother, she was overjoyed with the birth of her granddaughter and quickly embraced that change, loving all the updates, photos, and visits. She was an avid reader and devoted fan of Star Trek and murder mysteries, and joked for years that she could get away with murder as she watched and read so much.
Evelyn was also a foodie and inspired her children to spend time to learn to cook well, often getting to enjoy the fruits of her inspiration as her children presented their works in adulthood.
Evelyn described herself as "a woman of courage" and that she was. Faced with her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in the 1980s she continued to raise 2 young children, grew her business, continued to build a successful career, received accreditations, and built memories. Even in the days before the power of the internet was available, she dedicated countless hours to researching potential treatments for her MS, travelling the world to find and receive them. She was determined. She was a warrior in every battle she faced with this illness.
Memorial and Celebration of Evelyn's Life will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, Saskatchewan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to your local Humane Society.
Messages:
She was also as sharp as a tack when it came to playing bridge. I have good memories of our weekend games with her and Brett. And, yes, she was a warrior.
Our sincerest condolences to Adam and Erika. Our thoughts are with you.
I have just learned of Evelyn’s passing & my heart goes out to her entire family
