Berneice Herbst

January 13th, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Berneice Herbst announces her passing at the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan, on January 13, 2022. After fighting several health issues for so long, she is finally at rest and pain free.

Berneice was predeceased by two husbands, Mervin Wowk (1960) and Gerald Herbst (2010). She is survived by her daughters Betty-Anne (Ron) and Heather (Duane); a son Michael; six grandchildren, six great- grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered by other numerous relatives and good friends.

Berneice “Bunny” Moore was born on November 12, 1936 in Manigotagan, Manitoba and was raised further down the road in Bissett. As an adult, she lived in Ontario for a short time, and then moved back to Manitoba. She met and married “Jerry” in Winnipeg.  Because of his job with the bank, they ended up living in several different communities throughout Saskatchewan.

Berneice had the ability of making each new place a “home” in a very short amount of time. Besides being a loving wife and mother, she was also involved with C.G.I.T., Kinettes, Lioness, Red Hats and Crown Jewels, to name a few. She loved Rider football and curling. She went to several Briers and Scotties, finding it extra special when her niece was curling.

Once Jerry retired, they became “travellers”. Some of her trips included Denver, Dallas, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, Great Britain and Jamaica. Her last few adventures were with her sisters. They were often referred to as the “Three Amigos” or “Three Musketeers” but never ever call them the “Golden Girls”.

Family was the most important thing to her, a trait she instilled in all of us. Some of our best memories are from the many family holiday and birthday “get togethers” she hosted. Her last wish in life was to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren once again. Unfortunately because of Covid restrictions, we were unable to make this happen.

Berneice was a “glass half full” type of person. She was always friendly, smiling and ready to share a good laugh. One of the last things she said was, “I have had a good life!”

In honouring Berneice’s wishes, there will be no funeral. A small, immediate family service will be held at a later date. We would like to thank everyone for their support. Memorial donations can be made in Berneice’s name to the Canadian Mental Health Association, C.N.I.B., or a charity of your choice.

Messages:

Berneice and Jerry lived across the street from us when we moved to Regina. Such great neighbors. Always ready for a chat and always willing to house sit and keep an eye on things when we were away. We still miss them and think fondly of both of them. Condolences to the family. Berneice was so proud of you all!

So sorry to hear of your loss. Berneice was such a lovely lady and always enjoyed our time together traveling to Minot and other outings with the Rebel Rowsers. Although we have lost a precious jewel, she will be fondly remembered!

When Berneice was still in the house, I was able to pop in on occasion. Such a fun-loving lady. Condolences to all.

My sympathy to you and your families. I knew your Mom in Bissett. Your Aunt Edna and I are friends. one of Edna’s little sisters! Our paths crossed once when your Dad was posted to Yorkton and they attended Octoberfest here. Can see her wonderful smile. May your memories help you through these sad days.❣️

Gerry and Bernice were so welcoming and helpful to me when I was transferred from Saskatoon to Yorkton with Scotia Bank where he was manager. Bernice made sure I was fed well at their family table a few times before they were transferred out to another Branch. My very sincere condolences to your family especially Betty and my cousin Ron. Sending my condolences. Your Mom’s cheerful, fun loving spirit is missed by all at our Rebel Rowsers functions-especially the conventions and trips to Minot. Wish I could remember the card game she taught me during a visit to Green Falls Landing. A fun time.

Bernice was always such a pleasure to visit with. Always cheerful and positive. Our Rebel Rowsers have missed her presence. Wish I could remember the card game she taught me during a visit with her at Green Falls Landing. A fun time.

So so sorry for your loss. She was a good friend and we had lots of fun times. I know her family was the most important to her and she loved you all so much. I didn’t meet all of you but I quickly learned about you as she proudly told me about you all. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Pat Kosloski
