Orest William Grebinski

1959 – 2024

Dad. Brother. Grandpa. Son. Uncle. Friend.

It is with great comfort that Orest’s family announces his passing just shy of 65 years of age.

An adorable baby boy with big brown eyes and a head of dark curly hair, born to Frank and Mary Grebinski, Orest was the baby of the family. He was born into a busy household and spent his early years in Ituna, SK doing small town things before heading to the ‘big city’ of Lloydminster, and then landing in Regina. He welcomed three beautiful children into the mix soon after, who meant so much to him.

Orest’s sarcastic sense of humour could make you laugh or roll your eyes. He was generous, welcoming, funny, hard-working and smart. He had the ‘Grebinski charm’, and always had a cheeky little grin on his face that made you wonder what he was thinking. He could grow a heck of a moustache and often proudly sported a glorious curly mullet.

He always made sure people had what they needed, and was loyal, sometimes stubborn and always had everyone’s back. He was fast-moving, and never sat still. He didn’t like to leave a job unfinished and had an eye for detail. His career as a pipe inspector took him all over the world with jobs in Mexico, Turkey, Japan and the USA. Following that, he opened his own janitorial business where that keen eye came in very handy.

He loved muscle cars, and took great pride in his vehicles. If you mentioned his beloved Shelby Mustang GT, his face would light up and he’d make sure to show you a picture.

Orest loved a good storm, both rain and snow. The night he passed, heavy rain pelted his window in the strangest way, yet the parking lot was completely dry. Maybe that was his way of getting our attention to show he was now in a better place.

He fought cancer with all he had for 14 months. He kept a positive outlook and could be seen at Allan Blair Cancer Centre talking the ‘newbies’ through their first treatments. He survived his type of cancer a lot longer than most, possibly because he wouldn’t let himself quit trying.

Orest will be forever remembered by his sons Braydon and Christopher, daughter Brittany and granddaughter Khloe. Big brothers; Bernie (Sharon) Grebinski and Eugene (Debbie) Grebinski, and big sisters; Emily Onieu and Elaine (Dave) Elash. And, of course, his furry best friend – Scuffy. He will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, extended family and special longtime friends; John, Dean and Tim. Orest was predeceased by his parents; Frank and Mary, step-father; Nick Lutzko, the mother of his children; Rosanne Willison, and various family members.

Thank you to the incredible staff at Allan Blair Cancer Centre and William Booth Grace Hospice for his care, his wonderful social worker – Sandra, and Dr Souied and Dr Panjwani for their ongoing support.

A private family gathering will take place at Orest’s request, but your well wishes and support are appreciated more than you will ever know.

You gave the fight of your life, Orest. Rest well. You were and are so very loved.
