Hazel Rita Laycock
July 6th, 2011
Hazel Rita Laycock, age 81 years of Strathmore Alberta, passed away July 6, 2011 surrounded by her immediate family and the compassionate care of the staff of the Acute Care Wing of the Strathmore Hospital.
Left to celebrate and remember her smile, laughter and humor are: her husband, Raymond Alexander Laycock; her children, Margaret Anne Moore (husband James M. Robinson) of Cochrane, AB, Theresa Lynn Schwab (husband Larry Schwab) of North Battleford, SK, Rayder Alexander Laycock (wife Jenny Laycock) of Standard, AB; her grandchildren Amanda Weir, Axel Weir, Lillian Laycock and Jarrod Laycock; her siblings John Forsgren of Saskatoon, SK and Janet Schnell (husband Buzz Schnell) of Regina, SK; her long-time family friend Helen Clements and numerous friends and acquaintances who were enchanted by her love of life, wit, and kindness.
Our memories of Hazel includes her adventures as a one-room school teacher in the communities of Macrorie, Senlac, and Pinkham in Saskatchewan; her forbearance of a husband whose hobbies included military reserve, motorcycle racing, hunting and competitive shooting; her many years delivering the Calgary Herald which provided her with both the excuse and opportunity to form friendships; her devotion to her family that was expressed in numerous celebrations and festive dinners; her marvellous ‘green thumb’ that produced fairy-like gardens complete with elves; her long conversations that featured a forever flowing coffee pot and home-baked cookies; her genuine interest in other people and her generous attempts to assist them during their times of trouble, and her role as a loving grandmother whose greatest delight was playing with and spoiling her grandchildren.
Hazel’s predeceased siblings include: Doug Forsgren, James Forsgren, Marjorie Swannie, and Edna Roberts.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. For Hazel’s friends and acquaintances in Alberta, the family is planning an Open House during which we will share our memories over a cup of coffee and cookies.
