Evelyn May McFarquhar

It is with great sadness and grieving hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved wife, mother and grandmother Evelyn on Thursday, August 11 at the age of 73 years.  She is lovingly remembered by her husband of forty-seven years Lindsay and her daughters Maxine (David) Wilton of Cochrane and Janice (Adrian)DeGeer of Calgary and her beloved grandchildren Quinn, Garrett, Courtney and Carson; brother-in-law Jack (Katharine) McFarquhar, nephew Keith and niece Heather all of Calgary plus many cousins and dear friends.  She was predeceased by her mother Frances and father Roy.  Evelyn was born and raised in Fort Macleod, Alberta and moved to Calgary to begin her training in the nursing field at the Holy Cross Hospital.  Throughout her career, Evelyn worked at the Olds and Didsbury Hospitals. Evelyn’s greatest joy in life was her family and being a wife, mom and grandma.  Her love was unconditional.  She also was very involved in the Didsbury community and was an active volunteer with many organizations and her efforts were recognized in 1998 when she was awarded the William Gray Membership Recognition Award for Outstanding Service to the Association, Profession and Community.

A Memorial Service to honour Evelyn’s life will be held at the Knox United Church, 1406 – 19 Avenue, Didsbury on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Suite 100, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta  T2N 1Z6 or at www.heartandstroke.ab.ca or to Knox United Church, PO Box  57, Didsbury, Alberta T0M 0W0.  Messages of condolence may be left for the family.

Dear Lindsay and family Very sorry to hear about your loss. I worked in the Didsbury Nursing Home with Evelynn, one evening in the summer it was very hot, Evelyn phoned you and you brought us each a cokecola float, and it was very good. Evelyn was such thoughtfull and caring lady. I enjoyed working with her.
