Harry Rex Patching
September 4th, 2011
He is survived by his children, Beverley Lewis [Vancouver, BC], Jim Patching [Calgary, AB] and Patricia Patching [Sidney, BC], his grandchildren Kerry and Bill Davidson, Steven and Jodie Patching, and Rex Patching, son-in-law Marty Lewis, and his many nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his wife Betty in 1999 and siblings Tom, Del, Ed, and Fern. Harry was born in Vancouver and raised in Southern Alberta and received his education at Olds Agricultural College and the University of Alberta, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Harry served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II in London. In 1946 he and Betty were married and began their life together. Harry and Betty farmed and raised their family on their farm near Stirling, Alberta. They were a fine team and worked together to make the farm successful. He was very active in many community organizations including the UFA and the Alberta Wheat Pool, eventually serving as the elected First Vice President of the Alberta Wheat Pool, a second career after farming which obliged the couple to move to Calgary. Later in life, Harry became an avid cross-country skier, skater and hiker. He loved the Kananaskis country and spent many enjoyable days there. Harry was a determined, hardworking and generous person. He was well loved and will be missed by his family and friends. The family invites relatives and friends to join them at St. James Anglican Church, 6351 Ranchview Drive N.W., on Thursday September 22, 2011 at 1.30pm with the Rev. Arthur Sheffield officiating. A reception will follow in the adjoining annex. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favourite charity.
Messages of condolence may be left for the family.
