Albert Setter
September 18th, 2011
I was born in Amisk, Alberta to Chris and Karen Setter. I was the youngest of 15 children, eleven boys and four girls. I lived on a farm three miles west of Amisk and attended Morgan School until I finished grade eight in 1936. I started working at several different farms around Amisk. Then came down to Calgary and worked at DeWinton, Shepherd and Vulcan airports. In 1938 I returned to Amisk and worked on a farm until 1939, when K.R. McNeil came to Hughenden, Alberta (a town next to Amisk) building elevator annexes for the Alberta Wheat Pool. I was hired and worked until 1942. I then joined the army in the R.C.E. Regiment and trained in Camrose, Chilliwack, Vernon and several other places in B.C., Saskatchewan and six months carpenter trade school in Saskatoon. Then I was shipped to Camp Borden for one year and back to Calgary, Currie Barracks before being discharged in March 1946. I then went back to work for K R. McNeil Construction on general repairs until 1955, when I went to work for Alberta Wheat Pool. I was Foreman on maintenance and repairs until 1965, then promoted to District Foreman and travelled from Red Deer south until I retired in 1982, when I was 65. I really enjoyed my retirement after 28 good years with Alberta Wheat Pool. Tough work at times and ate a lot of dust, but enjoyed every year of it. Since retiring, I spent most of my time curling and golfing. I curled in Nelson and Osoyoos Summer spiels on my summer holidays and Blairmore over Easter. I enjoyed going on four cruises, to Vegas and on bus trips. I sold my home and moved into an apartment at Colonel Belcher Retirement Residence in 1988, where I really took life easy.

As president of Valhalla Sons of Norway lodge, may I offer my condolences to Albert Setter's friends and family. Albert was a member of the lodge since 1974. We didn't see him out at the monthly meetings in recent years, but appreciated his loyalty and continued interest in Norway and its culture. Med vennlig hilsen, Alison Wiigs
