Gloria Rubite Lacay
September 23rd, 2013
and aunt, Gloria Lacay (nee Rubite), on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the age
of 61 years. Gloria managed her ALS symptoms with great courage but unfortunately lost her life to the disease at the Red Deer Hospital. She is predeceased by her first husband, Benjamin; parents, Socorro and Diocorro; brothers, Robert and Rodolfo; and sister, Ligaya. Gloria was born in the Philippine province of
Sorsogon and was raised in the city of Manila. It was there that Gloria took her training at a vocational college, met her first husband, and had their son, Michael. After the unfortunate passing of her husband, Gloria’s ambitious and devoted character shone through when she took a job as a nanny in Hong
Kong. Subsequently, she was invited to work for the Wong family in Olds, Alberta, where she finally put some roots down and even became a Canadian Citizen in 2007. It was in Olds that Gloria was
blessed and found love for the second time. She married David Knapp in 2011. Over her lifetime, Gloria always provided for her family, both at home and abroad, and never wavered in her loyalties, generosity, or assistance to those in need. Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her husband, David; son,
Michael; stepchildren, Laurel and Lindsey; three grandchildren; nieces; extended family and many friends from all over the globe. Thank you for teaching us so much about a faith in God, the value of family, the rewards of hard work, determination, and ambition, as well as the role of gratitude and
generosity in our daily lives. A Funeral Mass will be held on at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Olds, Alberta on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in
Gloria’s honour to the ALS Society of Alberta, 250, 4723 – 1 Street SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2G 4Y8.
