Steve Otto McCulloch

December 6th, 2013

It is with great sadness that the family of Steve McCulloch announce his passing on December 6, 2013 at the Foothills Medical Center, Calgary, Alberta in the presence of his loving family.  Steve was born April 19, 1964 to Arnold and Jean McCulloch of Didsbury, Alberta and was raised on the family farm, Midway Farms, east of Didsbury. Throughout his life Steve valued his family and friends, life on the farm, sports, travel and had a great interest in war history and in particular World War II.  As an avid sports enthusiast, he was a fan of many sports and participated in baseball, hockey, golf, football and even rodeo for a time.  Steve’s early travels took him to Australia (seven month agricultural exchange), Las Vegas (for the NFR), Barbados, Mexico and South Africa (for the Boer Goats). Steve met the love of his life, Jennifer Redmond, in 1995.  Steve and Jennifer married on February 24, 2000 in Maui with their parents as attendants.  Friends and family lovingly remember their wedding celebration held in Didsbury upon their return from their honeymoon.  Jennifer shared Steve’s passion for travel and they had the opportunity to go to San Francisco, Las Vegas and Cuba together. Steve and Jennifer welcomed a son, Carson in 2002 and daughter, Rowan in 2004.  Steve loved his role of father and many times said that his children were his greatest source of pride. Jennifer and children will always treasure the memories of the great vacations to visit friends and family members in British Columbia, the Yukon, and Ontario as well as destination holidays to Mexico, Hawaii and Disneyland. Steve was a dedicated husband, father, family man, friend and farmer.  As a fourth generation farmer at Midway Farms, he took great pride in his family’s heritage and legacy.  He was active in both Didsbury and Midway communities. In recent years, Steve courageously battled cancer.  Jennifer and family would like to acknowledge and thank Units 61 and 47 at the Foothills Medical Center as well as Dr. Card, Dr. Hao and Dr. McFadden and their teams of doctors and nurses.  The family would also like to thank the people of Didsbury and area for their overwhelming love and ongoing support. Steve is lovingly remembered by his family; wife, Jennifer; two children, son Carson and daughter Rowan; parents, Arnold and Jean McCulloch; parents-in-law, Joe and Gwenne Redmond; sisters Ruby (Jim) Gole and Jennifer (Devon) Rabchak; brother, Barry McCulloch; brother-in-law Rick Kelk; sisters-in-law, Raylene (Rob) McWade and Lynne (Tim) Dorcas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Steve was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Earl (Sonja) McCulloch and his sister, Kathy McCulloch.  A Celebration of Steve’s life was held at the Zion Evangelical Church on Sunday, December 15, 2013.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Kindle, Box 280, Water Valley, AB T0M 2E0 or to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, c/o Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331 – 29 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N2.
