Muriel "Eileen" Mills
December 3rd, 2013
Just three months after the death of her beloved husband, “Pete”, Eileen succumbed to complications after hip surgery, in the Rocky View Hospital. Eileen was born in Hillcrest Mines, in the Crowsnest Pass area. Her family: Mum, Dad and sister, Hazel, moved to Crescent Heights area so the girls could complete high school at Crescent Heights. After graduation, Eileen worked in a variety of jobs. While attending Friday night Youth Dance, at Central United Church, Eileen met LAC Pete Mills. They were engaged and married in Calgary, at Church of the Redeemer, Sept 9, 1943. And so began a 70 year adventure as a married couple. When Pete was called back to England with the RAF, Eileen followed. She lived with the Mills and waited for Pete to return. When Pete returned to England, from Burma, they came back to Calgary. Later they moved to Edmonton, returning to Calgary for Pete’s job. Pete and Eileen were very active in Lakeview United Church and Airdrie United Church. Eileen was the secretary at Lakeview United and enjoyed working with Rev. Doug Greenough and Rev. John Moules. Fifteen years ago, Pete and Eileen moved to Airdrie to be near family. Eileen lived in the Bethany Airdrie Lodge for the last three years where she made friends. Grieving her passing, she leaves many friends and family; sons, David (Adele), Cameron (Charlene); grandchildren, Michael (Trisha), Paul (Cheryl) and Diana (Scott); Nicole (granddaughter of the heart); four beautiful great-granddaughters, Riley, Milla, Avery and Ava; sister, Hazel; niece, Sharon (Peter) and grand nieces, Megan and Heather. A Private Family Service will be held in spring 2014, in lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Airdrie Bethany Bus Fund, 1736 First Avenue NW, Airdrie, AB, T4B 1C9.
“To have lived well, laughed often and loved much, to have gained respect of intelligent men and the love of children… That is achievement” (Robert Louis Stevenson’s Achievement). Please remember Eileen with fondness and affection; celebrate a life well lived.
Messages:
Pete & Eileen's family: My deepest sympathy in the passing of both your Mom & Dad. I worked with Mr. Mills(just couldn't call him "Pete" he was my elder) at Toshiba Canada when he was Credit Manager in Calgary. I had the pleasure of meeting your Mom at many social occasions while at Toshiba. They were definitely a loving couple and I will remember both of them fondly. May your memories help ease your sorrow. Sincerely Jane Jacobs
Sorry to hear of the passing of mr. and Mrs. Mills. We were neighbours for many years and they were very good people. Cameron was a friend and we had some fun times together.
