MILLS, Percy William (Pete)

Birmingham, UK; May 13, 1920 – Airdrie, AB; August 29, 2013

Dearly beloved husband of Eileen Mills, Pete, passed away eleven days before their 70 wedding anniversary. Pete was born and educated in Birmingham, England. He joined the RAF in 1940 and was posted to Canada for training. It was in Canada that Pete and Eileen met, and in 1943 Pete married the love of his life, Eileen. Pete returned to England and remustered to “Intelligence”. He spent the next 2 years working with codes, and encryption in Burma and India. One of his most memorable moments was receiving and forwarding the message that said a truce had been signed and WWII was over. Pete returned to Canada in 1947 and worked as a credit manager until his retirement. Pete and Eileen enjoyed retirement together: day trips with friends, Airdrie United Church activities (loved the turkey dinners!) and family activities. Until the last five years, Pete was an active community member and highly regarded for his sharp intellect, ability to say the alphabet backwards – with speed and accuracy – dry sense of humor and community/church participation. He will be missed by sons: David (Adele), Cam (Charlene), grandchildren: Michael (Trisha), Paul (Cheryl), and Diana (Scott), Nicole (grand-daughter of the heart), and four great granddaughters. It is with sadness we say goodbye, but remember a life well lived. The family would like to thank Airdrie Bethany Care Centre for the love and care given to Pete. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bethany Care Centre Airdrie, Bus Fund. Memorial Service to be announced.

Messages:

Our thoughts are with Eileen at this time. Deepest Sympathies and we will always remember the fun times (and sometimes not so fun) at Lakeview United. Pete was a driving force at that Church as we are sure he was at many other churches and functions.
