Margaret Patricia Wood “Pat”(nee Carter)

March 14, 1933: Whitewood,SK

July 13, 2013: Calgary, AB

It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of our beloved Pat. She died as she lived surrounded by her loving family. Left behind to mourn her are George Wood, her husband of 58 years; her daughters Jan (Brian), Alison (David) and Judy (Jamie); her grandchildren Shayna, Anielle, Kelsey, Logan, Joel, Joshua and Jared; her sister Joan Ferguson and her long-time friend, “Gramma” Grace Jensen as well as many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends, old and new. Pat entered every room with a smile, an open heart and a willingness to lighten the load of others.  Her loving disposition lead her naturally into the profession of nursing. She graduated from the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital in 1955. She worked at the Grey Nuns Hospital, the Calgary General and the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital before returning to Calgary to raise her three girls. She later returned to nursing at the Holy Cross Hospital (as Nursing Unit Supervisor on Y2 and later with the Family Medicine Clinic) as well as in private practice with Dr. Douglas Cassidy.  In retirement she found the greatest enjoyment spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.  She found a new community and new vigour with the ladies of the “Y” Gentle Fitness class. She enjoyed “going for a bean” in the afternoon with George as well as their nightly competitions as co-contestants on Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. There was never a shop she could avoid nor a chocolate she could refuse though for Pat, shopping was more entertaining when done for others and chocolate was best enjoyed when shared. Her days were filled living for others and now our days are emptier living without her.  A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club (1600 Varsity Estates Drive, NW, Calgary) on Friday, July 19 at 1:00 pm with an informal gathering to continue until 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre c/o The Alberta Cancer Foundation at albertacancer.ca/memorial.

Always as we were

Yet now

In that Old Orchard.”

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Pat. She was my supervisor on Y2 and I remember her well. She was a wonderful person and colleague. I remember how she would talk about her family and how proud she was of you. My thoughts are with you all.

I worked with Pat at the Holy Cross in the early 1970's. She was a great nurse, and a lovely lady. I learned so much from her. My sincere condolences. Fran Varty

Please accept our sincere condolences on your loss. Anne-Marie & Bill Duma

I heard from Shelley in Winnipeg on Sunday. I was moved that I remember Pat from the Holy Cross, Dr. Cassidy's office and as the supervisor of Y2. George,I always found her pleasant in the extreme, wherever she was working. Unfortunately I will not be able to take in the Celebration of Her Life, as I am having cataract surgery on the 17th of July and forbidden to drive for two weeks. Sincerely as always, David (Lawson).
