William "Bill" Francis Bauer

BAUER, William (Bill) Francis

October 28, 1954 – Kitchener, Ontario

May 5, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Bill passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 63 after a courageous fight with cancer.  Bill was born in Kitchener, Ontario to Frank and Barbara Bauer and moved to Edmonton, Alberta with his wife Donna, to join Alberta Power after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University.  Following the completion of his MBA at the University of Alberta, Bill moved with his family to Calgary where he enjoyed a successful career in natural gas marketing for over 25 years, retiring as President of FB Energy.

Bill cared deeply for those in his life and will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna; children Matthew (Beata), Rachel (Tom) and Nicholas (Nicole); grandsons Justin and Aidan; sisters Julianne and Jane; brothers John and Fred; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many close friends. Bill was a very thoughtful and intelligent individual; he was always a great mentor to those around him and will be dearly missed.

As a life long learner, Bill was never one to shy away from a challenge.  Despite a demanding career, coaching hockey, and being involved in the Knights of Columbus, Bill also loved to tackle a host of projects: he built his home in the Summer Village of Ghost Lake; rebuilt his MGB; completed countless renovations on the homes of his family, friends and neighbors in addition to his own; designed and built furniture; made both beautiful and fun homemade gifts over the years.  He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, practical nature, keen intellect and witty sense of humour, especially since he was so generous in sharing these gifts with others.

A celebration of life will be held at The Cochrane RancheHouse ,101 RancheHouse Road, Cochrane, Alberta, on Thursday May 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  Those wishing to forward written condolences or their memories of Bill can do so through Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services.  In lieu of flowers, donations to The Tom Baker Cancer Centre, through The Alberta Cancer Foundation are greatly appreciated.

Messages:

My deepest sympathies to Donna and Bills family. My memories of Bill are from growing up in Waterloo and hanging out with Fred. Bill certainly was a great role model and inspiration for us as teenagers. My thoughts are with all the Bauer family.

Dear Donna, We are so sad to hear of Bill's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family at such a difficult time. With our deepest sympathies, Bob and Susan.

Words cannot explain how sorry I am that such a great guy and good friend since high school is no longer with us. Bill was exemplary at anything he put his mind to. He loved big and he loved large. Especially his incredible wife Donna and his wonderful family. We will all meet again Bill. Rest in eternal peace.

My thoughts are with the whole Bauer family. I have such great memories of my time with Matt and his whole family growing up. Mr Bauer took me to Peters Drive In for the first time and McDonald’s was never the same! I am glad Mr. Bauer had such great support from his loving family by his side.

Dear Rachel and Bauer Family, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I know how much he meant to all of you and may you find comfort in all wonderful memories you have with him. Please know I am here for you should you need any support or to lean on for what ever reason. Love you Rach!

Our Sincere Condolences on the passing of Bill. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

Donna, so sorry to hear about the loss of Bill. Such a well matched couple! Rarely have we encountered more caring members of a community. Both of you always looked to add positively to others. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To Donna and the Bauer family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Bill. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and hoping your family memories will carry you through this difficult time.

Bill's untimely passing will leave a Big Hole within his chosen Community, where over the year's Bill was always " there to help other's". Our deepest sympathies to Donna and Family. Bill has left a Lasting Legacy through his Family and his many Friends which shall continue to Shine.

It is often said that the pain you feel on the loss of a family member is reflective of the love you shared. With time the love will over-come the pain and you will remember your father more with smiles and less with tears. Our deepest sympathies to the extended Bauer family and especially to Matt, Beata, Justin and Aidan.

Donna I am so sorry to hear about Bill

It seems centuries ago when Bill and James coached our eldest boys in hockey at Crowchild arena. When we learned of his passing we talked of the things we remembered about him the most: his smile, his laugh, his absolute delight in coaching his son. He was generous with his kindness to friends and we will remember him for all of that, in spite of not seeing him for many years. We send our love and our thoughts at this most difficult time. James and Gayle Suderman

I am truly heart broken for the Bauer family. Bill was like a second father to me growing up. Family vacations in Ontario, tubing on Ghost Lake, but mostly Bill pushed me. He is a big reason I attended university and I will always remember his cheesy jokes, outrageous shirts, welcoming smile and great ‘dad’ advice. Sending so much love to the Bauer family.

I am very sorry to learn about the passing of Bill. My deepest sympathies to his family.
