Frances Mary Lila (Fran) Acheson
April 28th, 2020
With great sadness the family of Fran Acheson (nee Snider) announce her passing.
Fran passed peacefully after a short stay at the Dulcina Hospice in Calgary and Rockyview Hospital. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff at both for their care and compassion. It is hard to say goodbye to a loved one and not made easier with the pandemic restrictions. She was appreciative of the time spent with her family; her children meant the world to her and she was extremely proud of all her children and grandchildren.
Fran is lovingly remembered by her five children, Keith (Karen) Red Deer, AB, Michael (Kimberley) Airdrie, AB, Cameron (Cheryl Mayberry) Airdrie, AB, Lois (Dirk Bothmann) Terrace, BC, and Leann (Greg Solvbjerg) Calgary, AB; her grandchildren, Lauren (Calgary), Ethan and Colin (Red Deer), Jenna and Kenzie (Airdrie), Liam and Erin (Edmonton); siblings, Ruth Burnett (Clarke) Miami, MB, Richard Snider (Gail) Altamont, MB, Dulcie Kennedy (Alan) Miami, MB; and sister-in-law, Shirley Snider, Roseisle, MB; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fran was predeceased by her parents, Russell (1962) and Irene Snider (1990); brothers, Eric (1955), and Delbert (2013); and her former husband, Dudley (2000).
Fran was raised on the family farm near Miami, MB; after working in the local CIBC she attended Normal School in Winnipeg where she received her teaching credentials. She taught school for several years in Roland, MB. In 1960 she married Dudley Acheson of Somerset, MB and together they raised their family - mostly in Yorkton, SK. In the mid 1990’s she moved to Calgary where she continued working and eventually retired dividing her time between her family here in Alberta and summers back in Miami, MB with her brothers and sisters, attending local fairs and exhibitions. She never turned down a game of cribbage and as always, her sense of humor was present – she enjoyed a good joke and loved to laugh.
Fran’s other passion in life was creating with her hands. She was a nationally recognized quilter, avidly crocheted, knitted and sewed all her life. She enjoyed sharing her passions of creativity with everyone, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Chinook Guild of Fibre Arts in Calgary
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran’s memory to the Chinook Guild of Fibre Arts in Calgary, PO Box 34148 Westbrook RPO Calgary, AB T3C 3W2, https://www.chinookguild.ca/.
Cremation has taken place in Airdrie. Fran will be laid to rest in her beloved home of Miami, MB. A Memorial Service in Miami will take place at a future date.

I have memories of hours spent at your family home in Yorkton, being treated as another child and referring to your mom simply as "mom". Her love knew no bounds and her sense of humor legendary. My sympathies to Keith, Cameron, Michael, Lois, Leanne and partners/families on the loss of a lovely lady. Aunty Fran will be missed.
I met your mom at the quilting guild. I remember her fondly for her sense of humor and her willingness to help others. She was patient in helping me with my knitting when it became tangled or just didn't look right. Monday mornings with our coffee and quilting became a time of laughs, moments of asking each other advice on a project, or just socializing. Remember your mom/grandmother for all the times you were together, the times you laughed and the times you cried. My thoughts and prayers are with you all Judy .
