Frank David McEvoy

Frank McEvoy passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 after a long battle with Dementia. Frank was born at home on July 28, 1946 in Semi Wagon Ridge, Barnabe River, New Brunswick.
His father, Louis passed away when Frank was 9 years old leaving his Mom with seven children, Reg, Ann, Catherine, Joanie, Frank, Peggy and Donnie.
Frank joined the Military when he was eighteen. He was posted to various Canadian Armed Forces, across Canada from Montreal, Chatham, Prince George and Lahr Germany as a Military Police Officer
It was in Lahr Germany that he met his wife, Evelyn, who was also in the Military as a Nursing Medic. Their first son, Kevin, was born in Germany. Frank was later posted to the Armed Forces base in Calgary. His Field instructing and teaching in Wainwright left Evelyn with their second son, Darrell. Frank was then posted to Cyprus for a six month tour with NATO. Upon returning from his tour Frank joined the Calgary City Police, excited to finally have the arrival of his daughter, Cindy.
Frank excelled in the Calgary Police Force and retired in 2000 as a Sergeant. Combining his Military and CPS of thirty five years service. He received many awards and accommodations.
Franks other passion was his love of hockey; he coached minor hockey and ringette. He started the Airdrie Thunder Junior Hockey club in 1994-95. He loved working with youths and young men and besides hockey he helped many achieve their goals in life.
Frank has left many wonderful memories with his three children, Kevin(Sandra), Damon and Alena; Darrell (Zeto, his dog), Cindy (Miles), Kya, Jaxon, and Brystol. He loved his grandchildren and his dog gave him so much joy and fun they always brought a big smile to his face.
Frank will never be forgotten for his love of life, sense of humour and kindness and understanding he gave to everyone.
The family thanks Bethany Care Nursing and Care Givers, Dr. Kyne and administration for the very compassionate care given to him in his final days in Airdrie.

Frank was a wonderful person. He would come into CPIC and share his humor of the day, and get all of us laughing. I had occasion to be a back up with Frank on a call after becoming a police officer, and it was very engaging to see him in action. Way to young to lose a father and husband! My condolences to the family!
So sad to hear of Frank's passing. Condolences to Evelyn and family. I will never forget the Frank was the one to give me the opportunity to do what I loved and sing the anthem for the Thunder team. I have so many wonderful memories of holding that mic and running the DJ booth for 3 years. I was also lucky enough to grow up right across the street from Frank and Evelyn. He will be missed.
Frank retired from CPS the year I joined. His legacy lived on through countless stories from his previous partner's and colleagues. I eventually got to meet this amazing man shortly after he retired when we were driving bus together. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to get to know Frank. He will be missed. RIP Sarge.

Evelyn and family, My sincere condolences on losing such a good man. Frank and I partnered together back in the mid 80s and in addition to learning an awful lot from Frank about how to be an effective cop, we were both very passionate Flames fans. Later, I remember Frank's excitement and drive when he was establishing the Thunder. Frank had a good moral compass and was a hard worker. He volunteered for all the challenging calls and he was the guy you wanted to have backing you up on those calls. RIP FN2000. You'll always be remembered.
So sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of partnering with Frank in the early 80s while I was with CPS. A great police officer. He will be missed.

Frank and Evelyn were the most welcoming couple when we arrived in Airdrie in 2003. They opened their home and lives to us and helped with our transition to a new faith community. We will miss our visits with you both, as we have since he was ill. Frank had a good sense of humour, a story teller and fun to be around. My condolences to Evelyn and family. Frank was also my zone Sergeant 25 years ago. Many great memories. Frank would regularly forget my name and call me Lyle. Instead of constantly reminding him, I simply called him Hank. This rectified the problem quickly, but we continued calling each other by our new names for fun. Thanks for the memories Frank. You will be missed.

Our times together have been few and very far between, reunions years apart, but friends always, from as far back as Chatham to Lahr (when we were in Baden). I just want to say how sad I am on hearing the news of Frank’s passing. Kathy and I send our condolences to you Evelyn,Kevin,Darrell and Cindy. Frank and I were partners with CPS in the early 90’s . We had a lot of good times together a lot of laughs.Frank was a very good police officer and I learned a lot from him. As all know,Frank was firm but fair and would tell you what he thought,and was admired for that. I surely miss those days, as I will also miss Frank. Kathy knew Frank and family through the church and she always admired him for his sense of humour and loud laugh and grin. I had the pleasure of volunteering with Frank in minor hockey in the early days and also stayed close , as was lucky to have two sons play for the Thunder. Frank became a big part of the Airdrie Hockey World as most do not realize the time and effort it takes to get and run a Junior Hockey Team. His love for the game and the kid’s can only be matched with people like Ron Ebbeson or Murray Buchanan. Frank had a such wonderful sense of humor. He would often tell stories that made you laugh so hard you had tears running down your face. We would often cross paths at the rink when he was managing the Airdrie Thunder and our young boys played hockey in the opposite rink. He ALWAYS had time to say hello and have a chat. Frank was my first officer coach. He was a man's man . Tough, honest and someone you could always count on. He was proud of his family . He had a passion for hockey like no other. Being an Oiler fan and Frank being a Flames fan while sharing a cruiser was always entertaining . Frank taught me the skills to be a good police officer. We had a lot of laughs. We bet on the battle of Aberra and both of us had to wear the wrong jersey to and from work for a month on lost bets. I still smile about that to this day . I also laugh at the first time I went to Frank's home . I said, Frank, a tough guy like you lives in a PINK HOUSE ! Frank turned to me with that gruff voice and look , then said, "it's not PINK, ITS FIGHTING SALMON. Rest in peace my friend and Mycondolences to your family.
