BIRD, Sylvia Alice
December 14, 1945 – April 25, 2022
A life rich with friends, family, love and laughter.
Sylvia passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital after a lengthly illness.
She was raised on the family farm near Cremona where she valued her roots, learned to be good neighbor, and look after others. She completed her High School at Mount Royal College and went on to become the President of the first Foothills Hospital Nursing Class. Over the years she worked in several nursing specalties. A four year adventure to beautiful New Zealand found her helping with sheep shearing, waitressing, picking apples, nursing as well as exploring.
Back in Canada, Sylvia received her Diploma of Speech at Mount Royal College and worked with the Department for some time. She was house mother for six clients of the Vocational Rehab Center; sold Life Insurance; worked for 3M as a sales rep; sewed and hosted special dinners; loved the Arts and music; she embraced nature and loved to travel; and so much more. Through it all she always made time to help people through their tough times. A woman with a presence who engaged everyone around her and showed her huge heart!
As her health challenged her, she remained positive and optimistic.
Sylvia will be missed by her bother, Grant (Dorit); sister, Lillian (Bob Rehak); nephews and families, and many cousins. And so many faithful friends!! She was predeceased by her parents, Elma and Lionel Bird.
Sylvia was so grateful and we thank all the people who helped her through her health struggles. She received wonderful care by her many Doctors, the Home Care Team, as well as the Peter Lougheed Hospital Hematology Outpatient Clinis and Unit 38.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In memory of Sylvia, be kind and show respect to all others.

Sylvia was the first person I met when I moved to Calgary. As her room mate I saw firsthand her tender loving care of everyone around her. We called her Mother Sylvia and throughout her life she brought much laugher, love and solace to everyone who was lucky enough to enter her sphere of influence. A beautiful person, one of a kind, she will be very missed.
