BOWEN, Melvin Dale
September 20, 1936 – April 11, 2022
It is with great sadness, and much love, the family announces that on Monday, April 11, 2022, following a brief illness, the final flame of Mel’s life was extinguished.
Mel leaves to mourn his passing, his patient wife of 64 years, Vera Bowen, daughters Brenda (Glenn) Burton and Lynn (Dennis) Johnston, son Larry (Laraine) Bowen, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren, brothers Ted (Debbie), and Glen as well as numerous nephews and nieces. With his passing, Mel reunites with his parents, Marion and Edgie Bowen, sisters Georgina Baxter-Gilmour, Ruth Bowen-Redman, and Shirley Johnston.
A private family service will be held at the Airdrie Cemetery, following which, friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the home of Mel and Vera.
If so desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 100, 119 – 14 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Rehill, Hilda Franks and the kind, compassionate staff at the Didsbury Hospital and to all the paramedics who helped Mel.

Dear Vera, Larry, Brenda, Lynn, Ted and Glen. My sincere condolences in your loss of Mel. Life can take us a long way away, with many forgotten years in between, but somehow we miraculously remember childhood experiences and friends. May we always share in our hearts those warm memories of past times. My last of Mel was at our sad but pleasant time together to celebrate Georgina’s life. Mel was a unique individual not to be easily forgotten. Share your love and memories together and know that old friends are there too, comforting and consoling you. Warmest regards, Jackie
