Barbara (Babs) Meyerhoff

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara Meyerhoff (wife, mother, grandmother and teacher). Barbara is survived by her brother Dennis, her beloved husband of 56 years John, and her four children Bruce (wife Viva), Andrew (wife Mika), Dean (wife Cathy) and Kate (husband Bjorn). Barbara was also a loving grandmother to her 10 grandchildren (Halle, Aysha, Daniel, Reece, Riley, Spencer, Mejun, Sean, Fiona, and Sophia).
Barbara was born and raised in Vancouver and was blessed with strong extended family connections between parents, grandparents, siblings and cousins. Family was her lifeblood. In 1956 she married the love of her life John Meyerhoff. They would go on to have 4 children. She later returned to teaching elementary school and her passion/skill was in teaching children to read. In retirement her grandchildren became her new love. Her loyalty, honesty, joviality and generosity of spirit were renowned by all who knew her. She made the world a better place.
Barbara’s Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Ladner Baptist Church, 5624 Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, BC. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence for the family

I join you in prayers at this time, as her noble soul is being ushered in the Heavenly Realms, as she has begun her new journey. My heartfelt and tenderest love goes to each one of you, dear ones, as you will be missing her precious physical presence, but her spiritual being will be with you at all times, as you will always be inspired by her example of life and the loving relationship she had with each one of you. I join you in offering sincere prayers for the elevation of her noble soul in the worlds of Almighty, knowing that her precious being will be assisting all of her beloved family and friends from the Realm Above, now that she is free from physical limitations. Mr. Meyerhoff, I was sorry to read of Barbara's passing. I was in your grade 5 class in 1955 - 1956 at Sexsmith School. I remember that we had a party in our class in honour of your upcoming marriage. If I remember correctly, we sang a few songs & one of them was "Barbara Allen", even though, at the time, we didn't know that your future wife's name was Barbara. Keeping you & your family in my thoughts.
Dear John and family, I was saddened to read about Babs and her passing. She was a wonderful person, and it was a privilege to work with her at Douglas Elementary in the 1970's. She had a wonderful laugh and smile,a gentle manner, and was dedicated to the children. I think the last time I saw her was when we had dinner together at a Chinese restaurant on Cambie st, near 41st Ave- I enjoyed our conversation and what you had to say about education in the U.S., John. I hope the intervening years were kind to both of you, with adventures in your retirement that you can look back on with fondness. The world has lost a special person. I am sorry for you loss. After knowing Babys for over sixty years and enjoying her company I shall certainly miss her. I know the family will miss her very much and I feel their sorrow and send my condolences. I am unable to attend the memorial but my thoughts will be with you. Sincerely, Dorothy Wolfek
When I knew Barb at Graham Bruce she impressed us with her fierce and total dedication to improving not just the reading skills but the well-being of all the pupils who were lucky enough to have her as their LAC teacher. Her example was one that should contnue to be emulated. To the family, especially grandchildren, condolences on your loss.
