Teresa Mary Caroline Bergey

February 1st, 2023

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Teresa Caroline Bergey (née Schisan), who died peacefully on February 1st, 2023. Teresa was born April 5th, 1936, in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec.  She would later meet her future husband, Bill, in the small northern village of Temagami, Ontario.  After only a few months of marriage, Teresa’s adventurous spirit would serve her well when she and Bill left Canada to spend the next twelve years living in the Caribbean and South America.  During this time, she learned to speak Spanish and play golf, excelling in both and accumulating many trophies.

After returning to live in Canada, Teresa and Bill would continue to travel around the world. She loved seeing new places, meeting people, and hearing their stories. She was a passionate bibliophile, a pianist, and a lover of music and poetry. Throughout her life Teresa had an artistic flair that twenty-five years ago turned to quilting.  As a member of many local guilds, she made good friends and beautiful quilts. So much fabric, so little time! Teresa made friends everywhere she went.

Teresa’s greatest love was her family and she spoke of them every chance she got.  Grandma was a big part of her grandchildren’s lives, and she never missed a special date.  She truly enjoyed spending time with them and was a big supporter of all they did.  As they got older and brought partners into their lives, she warmly embraced them as part of the family.

Teresa is survived by Bill, her husband of sixty-six years, her three beautiful daughters, Anne (George), Tracy (Bill), and Susan (Thomas), as well as her five grandchildren Molly, Christopher, Graham, Duncan, Adam, and step-granddaughter Veronica. She is pre-deceased by her loving brother, Basil, and sister, Margaret.

At Teresa’s request, a family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Langley Hospice Society (langleyhospice.ca).

Teresa We will meet again ! You were an incredible Lady with more personality in your Quilting finger than most people have dreamt of having in many life times. Teresa you are a shining Star that I will see whenever I look into the Sky ! Love you ----- oops Teresa always Teresa! See you someday Teresa.

My condolences to the family. I always loved sitting next to Teresa at stitching at Peace Arch Quilters’ and Needlenuts as she was always full of tales of adventures and love for her family. Hugs to the family who she loved dearly.

I feel so fortunate to have known Teresa. I first met her 12 years ago. Immediately, I could see how Teresa was a strong and amazing person. She was very heartwarming and loving. I was new in Canada at that time, and her kindness gave me courage. Additionally, she was a very talented quilter; her works were beautiful. In our group, Applicators, she was like a big sister. We had wonderful times together with lots of show and tells and laughter's. Her death has left a void, which can not be filled. I shall forever cherish my memories of her. My condolences to the family.

I want to extend my sincere sympathy to all of you for the passing of Teresa. What a sad time. It seems so long ago we all lived as neighbors on cranley street. As I recall Teressa was an avid book reader. With that and her travel she must have been a source of great learning for you girls. I’m Glad you live close to your dad so you can help each other at this difficult time. Know others care and wish you peace With love. Ardelle

My sympathy is extended to you. May her zest for life continue on in each of you. Hugs and love, Elaine

Susan and Family -- I am so sorry for your sorrow, but of course take solace in knowing that your Mother did not suffer too long and passed peacefully. Susan shared so many stories of your family life, and I listened in awe of the privilege and delights that your Mother and Father took you all on (whether you liked it or not ;) ) WOW what a life !!! Much love to all -- hold the memories and good times close Best, Leigh and Dan
