Theresa Sabina Buzik

August 26th, 2011

THERESA SABINA BUZIK (NEE GELOWITZ) AUGUST 26, 2011.  Grace was in all her steps, heaven in her eyes, in every gesture dignity and love. It is with deep sorrow that the family of Theresa Sabina Buzik (nee Gelowitz) announces her passing on August 26, 2011 at the age of 79 years, after a decades-long battle with diabetes and congestive heart failure. Theresa died the way she wanted to, at home with her devoted daughters at her side. She passed away softly in her sleep with a peaceful countenance. As a kind, gentle, generous and loving wife, mother, sister, sister in-law, cousin, aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt. Theresa will be forever missed. Theresa was recorded as the very first baby girl born in Pierceland, SK. Her parents had emigrated from Austria around 1900. She was the seventh of seven children born to Wilhelm and Anna Gelowitz. She had a close, loving family and a happy childhood growing up during the depression. Her father started with a livery and dray stable, and later a farm equipment franchise. In the late 1940's Theresa moved, with her mother and father, to Saskatoon where she worked at Federated Co-op in the accounting department. She loved music and had many happy times in Saskatoon. A large number of her relatives had also relocated to Saskatoon. It was there that she met and married Paul Buzik in 1963. After a couple of relocations they settled in Calgary, AB in 1965. Theresa and Paul had two daughters, Ann Marie (Terrence Wutzke), and Grace Buzik. Theresa was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1998. A caring mother of two daughters and a woman deeply dedicated to her Roman Catholic faith. She was an active member of the C.W.L. She was always willing to donate her time creating fancy baking to help ensure the success of church bazaars. Theresa enjoyed many lovely times with her good friends at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Her life accomplishments are too numerous to list, and those fortunate to receive her love and kindness will forever remember her, and be encouraged to pass them on for generations to come. She extended her love, help and caring to all, she never forgot a birthday nor an anniversary of her hundreds of friends and relatives. In her later years she lived quietly at home cared for by her daughter Grace. A couple of Theresa's favourite things were chickens and teapots. She was a champion of the English language and some of her greatest enjoyment came from crossword puzzles, and weekly scrabble games with her very close double first cousin MaryAnn Kavanagh (nee Flegel). Theresa also found pleasure in playing all kinds of card games, and trivia games. She was as sharp as a tack and had a beautiful ready smile for everyone. In addition to her immediate family, Theresa is survived by her sister Elizabeth "Beth" (Kelly Baumgardner). Theresa was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Matthias George (Verna Shaw), Daniel Anton (Josephine Gross), Apollonia "Polly" (Joseph John Gross), Magdalena "Lynn" Johanna (Joseph Bender), and Anton "Tony" (1 Margaret A. Murphy-deceased, 2. Rosemarie Niedermaier). Prayers for Theresa will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, 711 – 37 Street NW, Calgary, AB at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 31, followed by tea and sweets in the church hall. Funeral Mass will also be celebrated at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church at 11:00am on Thursday, September 1. Following the services there will be a reception in the church hall. Theresa will be cremated and interred with her husband at Queens Park Cemetery at a later date. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.

Grace and family, So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was such a good neighbor to us and especially to our children. I don't know how she remembered their birthdays every year! I will miss her in the raspberry patch and exchanging jam every year. Our thoughts are with you. Danelle and Axel
