Annie Laura Chikinda

February 28th, 2012

Annie Laura Chikinda (nee Pearson) passed away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice on February 28, 2012 to join her husband and best friend Leo.

Annie was a proud native Calgarian and it is where she met her soul mate, Leo.  Her family rejoices that she is now reunited with her beloved husband of fifty-three years.

Annie is survived by her sister Donna; her children: Byron (Joy), Sandra (Glen), Neena (Chris) and Michael; her grandchildren: Jason, Cara (Jay), Devyn, Nathan and Jesse; her great grandchildren Fallon and Ashley; her extended family throughout North America, and her spiritual family at Southwood United Church.  Annie was predeceased by her husband Leo Chikinda on April 28, 2002; her parents Ernie and Margaret Pearson and sisters Verna Hawkins and Bette Stahl.

In addition to being a wonderful mother, Annie was employed by the Calgary Iron Works, was a secretary for Iron Workers Local 725, a part-time secretary for Southwood United Church and a secretary-accountant for Chikinda Consultant Services.  She enjoyed working in different capacities in Central United Church, which included being an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and U.C.W. President.  Since 1966 she attended Southwood United
Church where she served on a variety of committees including the Official Board, the U.C.W, Creative Conversations, the Pastoral Care Committee Card Ministry, the Alpha Group, the Prayer Works Group and the Prayer Shawl Group.  She was also a dedicated teacher of Bethel Bible Studies the New Testament, and the Women of the Bible Series.  She loved being a mother and friend to her children, grand-children, great grand-children, and (of course) her dogs.

Annie will be remembered for her generosity, her devotion to her family and church, her adventurous spirit, and her positive, courageous determination, which was an inspiration to us all.

Services will be held at Southwood United Church, 10690 Elbow Drive, SW, Calgary on Saturday, March
3, 2012 at 1:00pm officiated by the Reverend Ed Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, to Foothills Country Hospice, to Southwood United Church or to the Animal Rescue Foundation.

The family wishes to thank her general practitioner Dr. Crouse, her oncologists Dr. Bramwell and Dr. Coulter, Barb and Pat of the Breast Cancer Trial Clinic at Foothills Hospital and the staff at the Foothills Country Hospice for their kindness and compassion during Annie’s stay there.

Messages:

Dear Chikinda family - We are so sorry to hear of Anne's death. We had a lovely association with her and your father, Leo, and Mike (in the choir) at Southwood. Anne and Leo were always up people and a pleasure to spend tme with. We were fortunate to have them touch our lives. When Leo went, Anne carried on - with a heavy heart at first - but she was a survivor. She gave so much of herself at Southwood - she was a presence. Please accept our condolence - the earth has lost an angel but heaven has gained one. If we do meet in the great beyond, then there has been a glorious reunion for your parents. God blessed us when he made them. Most sincerely, Cidnee and Henk Wind

Please accept our deep sympathy on behalf of the Southwood Inn From The Cold Volunteers. Ann has provided hand made hats and ear warmers to each of our homeless guests along with chocolates and Christmas wishes. Needless to say they were always appreciated. We will miss her.
