Connie Anne (nee Montgomery) Funke
March 10th, 2013
Connie passed away on March 10, 2013 after a hard fought battle against cancer. She was a young 61. Connie was born on May 2, 1951 in Calgary, Alberta, the first child of Neil and Ruth Montgomery. She grew up and attended all her schooling in Calgary with the exception of 3 years when she lived in Honolulu, Hawaii and took her interior design degree with honors. She graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in computer science but her passion was interior design. She worked in the interior design field her whole career and she had an eye for what worked in houses. She began painting as well and her watercolors are gorgeous. She enjoyed gardening and had gradually turned the front of her house from lawn to beautiful gardens. Connie met her love, Ron, in 1976 and they married in 1981. They had two wonderful children, Travis (Michelle) and Trent. She was a loving auntie to many more. Her and Ron liked to travel – Europe, Mexico, Africa, Asia and British Isles but especially loved her time at the cabin in Windermere where they had just finished building a new vacation home. She leaves the world darker for her loving husband, Ron; her sons, Travis (Michelle) and Trent. Also left to mourn are her mother, Ruth; her siblings, Elaine (Robert), Doug (Pat) and Murray (Mirella). Her love extended to all of her family, mother-in-law Rita Funke, brothers-in-law Rob (Bonnie), Ed (Eileen), Gerry, sister-in-law Joan (Gerry); and many nieces and nephews. She had a large circle of friends who were wonderful in their visitations and support. Connie was predeceased by her father, Neil; her father-in-law, Larry and her nephew, Brandon Maitland.
A Celebration of Connie’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at St. David’s United Church, 3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W., Calgary, Alberta at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trent Funke’s Conquer Cancer Bike Ride at www.conquercancer.ca or to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alberta/NWT Division, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5.

There is really no way to express our shared sorrow, except to ask God to give as much comfort to all of you, that your time of healing may be short. Jill DeGroot plans to attend the service on Saturday, unfortunately, Lorne has an unavoidable school engagement on Saturday and will be unable to attend Connie’s service. May God Bless, and look over you all with extra care, during this most difficult chapter in your lives. Jill & Lorne DeGroot
Our dear friend Connie will be missed. She left us too soon - but we have joyful memories of good times at the cabin and get-togethers with friends, sharing travel stories, her wonderful art, her generous nature, and her big heart. She inspired us with her great positive energy. She was a wonderful gardener, and the flowers that she shared with us for our garden have grown vigorously. They serve as a reminder to us of her lovely spirit. We feel very fortunate that we were able to have Connie as our friend. Our hearts and thoughts are with you Ron, Trent and Travis.
thoughts and prayer to the family. Connie was awesome saleswomen in our upholstery trade, when she made trips to medicine hat , clean up my books and drop new ones off. Lean on each other for support, God Bless your family. Robert/ Terri from sewline upholstery ltd.
To Ron, Travis, Trent, Ruth and Family: Thank you for calling me today, Ruth. I am thinking of you, Ron and the family today. I wanted so to make cmhdontact with Connie this year but missed her. We had a good phone conversation last June but she was not feeling well to come to my retirement. I wanted her there and wanted to celebrate with her. Today I am thinking of my sweet friend who was my first playmate and friend through the years, especially in the early days when our Mothers worked and celebrated Birthdays together on October 13. I wish that we had spent more time together but I have taught school and raised my kids alone for 40 years. Ron and Connie and boys were so kind to us to invite Teyden, Caroline and me to Windermere in the summer of 1989 when Art and I split up. The memories of these family time together comfort us. Hugs to all of you and I will be there on Saturday to say Aloha to a sweetheart angel! She loved Beauty and gave so much of it to the world! Lovingkindness to All, Paddy
Very sad to hear of Connie's passing, even though we can't be there our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sorry for your loss.
Dear Ron, We are so sad to hear of the passing of your dear Connie. She was such a remarkable woman, and I learned so much from her about living life to the fullest. You two were a great team - you had a strong marriage and you raised two great children together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time as you learn to walk without her.
Dear Mrs. Montgomery and Family: Our deepest condolences to all of you! Connie was much too young to pass on from such a horrible disease! Please know that you are all in our hearts and prayers at this extremely difficult time. Love, Maureen Preston (Murphy), John, Katelyn and Shauna Preston.
Dear Ron, It has been many years since Connie and I sat in the bleachers to watch Trent and Eric's Westwood Warrior games. And although, once hockey was over, we went our separate ways, I'll always remember how much more enjoyable the games were when Connie was there to share them with. She was truly a great lady. Our deepest sympathies to you, Trent and Travis as you adjust to life without her. Betty, Tim, and Eric Shaw
