Sid passed away peacefully wrapped in the love of his family on March 20, 2014 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 61.  Sid was a welder from a young age.  When he was in high school his welding class built the original steel gate at the Granum CRC cemetery. After working in Calgary and Edmonton he came home and worked in Nobleford at Noble Blades, in Barons and later in Nobleford at Keho Industries.  When Edwards Grain Industries bought Keho Industries he stayed working for them.  At the time of his death he had worked there for 27 years and was proud of every minute of those years. Sid was a long standing member of the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church, an original member of the Lethbridge Christian Mens' Choir and for 20+ years was a leader of the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church Cadets. Sid is survived by his best friend and wife of 24 years, Margaret, their six children and 5 amazing grandchildren: Gordon McNichol, Tim McNichol (Kathy Plomp), Glen Havinga (Carol), Barry Havinga, James Havinga (Kayla Szabo) and their children Ramaro and Auriauna,  Sherry Bakowski (Dwayne) and their children Shamus, Malikhi and Braizlee. Sid is also survived by his parents, Arthur and Alberta Havinga, his siblings, Adrianna Bolduc (Dyce), Jennie Cherniwchan (Brian), Walter Havinga (Theresa), Elza Bouwman and too many nieces and nephews to mention.  Sid’s family also included his aunts and uncles; Ralph and Wilma Poelman, Joe and Ann Havinga, Annabelle Robinson and many cousins in Canada and the United States.  Sid's extended family included Margaret's three sisters; Judy, Trudy, Roxanne (Jack), two brothers; Bill (Lauretta), Jim (Elsie), numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Sid was predeceased by the mother of his sons, Lois Havinga, his grandparents and his aunt and uncle, John and Marie Sterenberg. Sid’s greatest joys were spending time with his family, camping and FISHING!!!!!

A Celebration of Sid’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Nobleford Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM

Thank you from Margaret, their family as well as the Havinga and Jenkins families for being a part of Sid’s life, for your friendship and love, for laughing and praying with him and sometimes dodging the result of his temper.  His leadership, work ethics and pride in workmanship that he instilled in you will stay with you forever.

May God bless you all.

Sorry to here of the passing of Sid . But my heart is with you today .Sid will all ways be with us as he is a good man . Lamont

Sid was the third person we met in Nobleford and became our neighbour and friend. No matter what he was dealing with and how much pain he was in, there was always a smile on his face. Along with the laugh came an easy and honest laugh and it is his laugh that we will always remember. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Sid was a significant part of what we loved about living in our little barn house. Our thoughts are with you Margaret, Tim & Kathy, and the rest of your families.

My condolences to my cousin Sid's family. Sid and I go back to a time when there really was nothing to think about but fishing and riding horses and plying at cowboys. My first visit to Alberta at age 13 (and Sid and I are the same age) resulted in me learning of my "western" side of our family. I am saddened to learn of Sid's passing but him being in the Lord's arms now will be comfort to both Sid and his family. Although Sid's Uncle Mike from Niagara Falls can no longer travel he also sends his prayers and love to all the family. Godspeed, Sid.

My deepest condolence too all the family,

I first got to know Sid in the mid 90s when he was my Cadet counsellor. The last 8 years or so I sang baritone with him at the Lethbridge Christian Men's Choir. Often we would chat after practice at Tim Horton's. Even when he was in physical pain he brought a lot of energy and dedication to the choir. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

Our condolences to all of you with Sid's passing. Our history with Sid goes back a long way.....as we went through grade school together. It was at our 20 year reunion that Sid regaled us with stories of stuff that he had experienced.......from quirky accidents to being next to homeless in Calgary. He told the stories without any rancour or feelings of being a victim. He had a huge heart and accepted life as it was served up to him. In later years he used to stop by for batteries for cadets and we would visit a bit. It would seem that the sun was always shining.....even though his physical condition was far from ideal. He was a man of the Christian faith....and his faith is now sight. I confidently feel joy for Sid.....but all of you will need to adapt to a large hole in your lives. May the Lord grant you strength and wisdom as you live the days ahead. sincerely Tjapko and Mary Lou Detmers
