Gerald "Gerry" Douglas McKay

May 25th, 2014

McKAY, Gerald  “Gerry” Douglas

Gerry McKay was born May 13th, 1941 in Kimberley, BC. He passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, May 25th, 2014 in Calgary at the age of 73 years, in the presence of his family. Gerry is lovingly remembered by  his soulmate and best friend of 52 years, his beautiful wife, Jane; his three children, Paul (Sunday),  Jason (Debbie), and Barbra Carpay (John); six grandchildren, Shawna, Ryan, Victor, Anastasia, Elisha and Sophia; three of his siblings, brothers, Rob and Brian and sister, Debbie.

Gerry was highly respected by his co-workers, employees, and his many business associates. His greatest success however, was that he was the best Dad, Grandpa, and Uncle that anyone could ask for. Through the years, many friends became family to him and he never turned anyone away that was in need. He was known for his generosity and sense of humour. He loved a good time and always had a joke for every event, occasion, and circumstance. A hug from Gerry would be one you wouldn't easily forget. He took great delight in making everyone around him laugh, all the time, regardless of the situation. He loved to entertain his friends and family with his famous dinners; prime rib, steaks and shrimp with his secret tomato sauce, for which he never divulged the recipe. He brought a smile to everyone. Gerry was the genuine article, what you see is what you get. He was and is deeply loved and will be missed.

Thanks to the care team on Unit 46 at the Foothills Medical Centre and to the Palliative Care Team at the Chinook Hospice.  A Memorial Service for Gerry will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 6351 Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, AB on Friday, June 6th, 2014 at  2:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s memory may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 6007 – 1A Street SW, Calgary, AB, T2H 0G5 (403-255-6108), or the Canadian Cancer Society, #200 – 325 Manning Rd NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 2P5 (403-205-3966).

Jane, Paul & families, So sorry to hear of Gerry's passing. Will fondly remember him for his sense of humour and mostly for making everyone feel special when he spoke with you, he always remembered names of everyone in my family and showed interest in how they were. Made me truly feel part of the 'Keller' family. Sincerest Condolences, prayers and thoughts go out to all of you. Kathi & Felix Miller

Uncle Gerry always had such a wonderful smile and great energy. Spending time with Gerry & Jane in their Calgary home when I was young was always full of love, smiles and laughs. I remember him fondly. Love, Suzanne

Uncle Gerry since as a child and still to this day he was always my favorite Uncle and he was the best. Rest in peace Uncle Gerry. I Love You, Your Niece Donna.

I worked for Gerry for a short time many years ago and he was a genuinely nice man. My husband, Maurice, had met Gerry through Mr 'Pach' and would enjoy a coffee with Gerry at the office while waiting for Pach to get ready for a golf game. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Sorry to hear the loss of one of the greatest dads. BELIEVE - ENERGY

Jane and Family: I'm so sorry to read of Gerry's passing. Always looked forward to your visits while in town. We had so hoped to see you both at our 59"er get-together in July. He will be missed by myself and all the Kimberley grads. Much love and prayers to you all. Faith

My heartfelt condolence to Jane, Paul and all the family in the loss of Gerry. Gerry and my relationship started as a business relationship and turned into a true friendship very quickly. We were great confidants together and shared many a laugh in that time. We would phone each other when we had a new joke to tell or just to talk about business or whatever we wanted to talk about. He was a man with impeccable business sense and was well respected in the industry. Thanks Gerry for a great run. We will miss you. Vic Robinson
