Stan passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Sarcee Hospice in Calgary after a long struggle with kidney and heart disease. Stan grew up and attended school in Drumheller with his identical twin, Hugh; his brother, Norris; and his sister, Lois Petty. Stan married Lorraine Evans in 1965 and raised two children, Michael and Leanna, in Calgary. Stan’s many years as a social worker reflected his love of people and his optimistic and generous nature as he counselled families at Alberta Social Services, Little Peoples Daycare, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Stan’s family offers a special thank you to Dr. Samuel Schorr (Nephrologist); the doctors and nurses at the Northlands and Foothills Hospital dialysis units; and the doctors and nurses at the Foothills Hospital Emergency Room for their care and support of Stan and his family. A Celebration of Stan’s life will be held at the Best Western Village Park Inn, 1804 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary, on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm. I was saddened to learn of the passing of Stan. We spent many hours together and shared many miles when he was with the Bank of Montreal at Carbon AB. He very quickly became another member of our family participating in meals and activities. I know he will be missed, however, my life as well as many others have been enriched for having known Stan.
