REGNER, Emil
Emil Regner passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the age of 100 years. Emil Regner was born to Daniel and Regina Regner on October 28,1914 in Borodino, Bessarabia, Rumania. He was the oldest of three sons. He was baptized in the Christian faith on Nov. 2,1914 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 12, 1928. When he was 14 years old he immigrated to Canada along with his parents and brothers Robert and Arnold. They settled in Spondin, Alberta. Here he received 2 months of schooling which turned out to be the only formal education he received in Canada. Despite this he taught himself how to read and did an enormous amount of reading. He then went to work for various neighbors in the community, hauling feed in the wintertime using horses, and in the summertime walking behind horses plowing the fields. He did all of this for about $5.00 a month (which he took home and gave to his dad to help support the family)
He was a humble man --and didn't like to be in the forefront of anything.
In 1923 he married Hilda Lehman and they continued to farm in the Spondin area until 1949 when they moved to Carstairs area. They farmed there until 1975 at which time they retired to Didsbury. Emil loved the farm and helped with whatever he could as long as he was able. He was a life long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Didsbury and his greatest joy was seeing all of his family in church on a Sunday morning. Emil was predeceased by his wife, Hilda; his parents, Dan and Regina; brothers, Arnold and Robert; sisters-in-law, Marta and Linda; and son-in-law, Larry Krebs. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Art (Bev), Gloria (John), Richard (Audrey), Bob (Linda), Don (Leone); grandchildren, Shawna (Alan), Kevin (Louise), Darren (Kim), Michelle (Ron), Jackie (Cody), Betina (Jody), Lisa (Kyle), Tara (Cory), Mike, Mark, Kayla (Eryk); 18 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service for Emil will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Didsbury, AB on Saturday November 22 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rob Mohns officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1500 – 23 Street, Didsbury, AB, T0M 0W0 or the charity of your choice.
