SCHMICK, Allan
Allan Schmick of Carstairs, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on June 8, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Allan was born on April 3, 1929, to Alexander and Catherine Schmick, on their farm east of Carstairs. Allan attended Siebertville School for most of his education and worked on the family farm. In 1961, Allan and his brother, Eddie, purchased the farm and formed the Schmick Bros. partnership until Eddie’s retirement in 1991. After being acquaintances for many years, Allan Schmick began a curling rink courtship with Eileen Neumiller. They were married on December 6, 1965, and proudly began to establish their farmstead just east of the Schmick family farm. Their two sons, Doug and Spencer were born soon after. Allan enjoyed farming with his eldest son, Doug, from 1992 until his “so-called retirement”. Through the years, Allan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing baseball, curling, hunting, playing pool, and singing. Allan will be greatly missed by; his son, Doug and his wife, Susan; their children, Sarah and Quinn, of Carstairs; son, Spencer, of Calgary; sisters, Rose Rohl, Viola Van Tetering, Lenore Weber and her husband, Bill; brother-in law, Danny Morasch, as well as many extended family members and friends. Allan was pre-deceased by his wife, Eileen; his brothers, Sam, Danny, Adam, and Eddie; and sisters, Elsie Morasch and Lil Jochems. Allan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Sagewood Seniors Community in Strathmore, the Chinook Winds Lodge in Carstairs, and the Bethany Care Centre in Didsbury for their loving care of Allan over the past two and a half years. A special thank you to Nancie Gullacher for her great compassion, love, and support. A Celebration of Allan’s Life was held on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Carstairs Bancroft United Church with Reverend Bryan Derksen officiating. If friends so wish, memorial tributes in Allan’s memory may be made to Special Olympics Airdrie, P.O. Box 10411, Station Main, Airdrie, AB, T4A 0H6, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Doug and Sue, we are so sorry to hear of your Dads passing. Our family's hearts go out to yours.
