Walter Fred Wagner

WAGNER, Walter

Walter never entered a room without someone saying, “Hello Wally.”  On Monday, May 12,2014  we all had to say, “Goodbye.” Born in southern Saskatchewan, Walter joined Jean, his wife of more than 60 years, when he passed away in Calgary in his 92nd year. Walter was a salesman, a sportsman, a businessman, and an entrepreneur, working, playing and raising a family in Saskatoon. Jean and Walter had cultivated a wide circle of friends and family over the years in Saskatoon, down south during their winter getaways, and out west visiting family. They loved times spent at the games table, and active to the end. Walter was golfing with his grandkids this fall nearly shooting his age and enjoying life to the fullest. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Staywell Manor for their exceptional care and kindness to Wally. Also a big thank you to his family physician and friend, Dr Laura Bennion and to Janet Bullard whose support and expertise made Wally’s final months what he wanted.

We will miss you Wally.

Messages:

We grew up working with Wally at the Willows Golf Course and have a lot of fond memories of 'One Putt Wally'. Wally was known and appreciated by all at The Willows. I remember our fall rounds of golf in the early 90's the most. We would meet at noon every weekday, Wally and his mini Brandy bottles made the coldest fall day a good day for golf. I also remember the birthday cakes Wally shared with us, the A.C.T. Grey cup pools, and the many stories he shared with me. Wally and Jean will always be fondly remembered at The Willows.

glen Penner and I were just wondering about Wally the other day.Needless to say, I am saddened by the news, but he did have a good run. I was playing golf with him in 1993 when I recorded my first hole in one on Island 3 at the willows where we were not only work colleagues, but friends. We looked forward each year to Nicos annual visit and watching him grow older every visit, Wally and Jean were wonderful people and I know his family misses him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss.
