FRIESEN, Alan Wayne
Alan Wayne Friesen went to be with the Lord at the age of 60 years on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Rockyview General Hospital, after a ten month battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 31 years, Irene (Kurbis) Friesen; his daughter, Brittany Friesen; son-in-law, Nathanael Motz; his son, Brandon Friesen; his mother, Elsie Friesen; 4 brothers and 1 sister as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Friesen; his father, John Friesen; and sister-in-law, Alvira Friesen.
Alan was born January 11, 1955 in Brandon, MB. Raised in the farm life, he was a hard worker in the family business, preferring to run equipment than attend the one room school in Moore Park.
His passion lay in tractors, trucks and driving. His bachelor days were spent challenging himself on the long drives when he worked for a tour bus company based in Winnipeg and then going for rides on his snowmobile at night with friends.
The major turning point in his life was when he drove to Vancouver to buy a car and eventually ended up attending Capernwray Harbour Bible School on Thetis Island in 1982 where he met his future bride, Irene. They married April 21, 1984 in Golden, BC and eventually settled on a parcel of land just outside of Calgary where they raised their two children.
Alan’s passion for driving never wavered and he committed his career life to it. Staying at one trucking company for nearly 25 years. Throughout his working life he switched between long and short haul, content on the long stretches of highway.
He was a devoted father and husband and will be remembered for his love of coffee; off-colour sense of humour; desire to help others; unwavering faith; and daredevil nature. He always encouraged people to dream big and find their own way. Alan will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His strength and values will live on.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 1009 East Lake Blvd NE, Airdrie, AB on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 amMessages:
I am truly saddened to hear of Wayne's passing. My sincere condolences to the family. I worked with Wayne for a short period of time at Beaver Bus Lines in the 70's and we grew to be friends. We did several long distance trips together as well as worked together in the shop between trips. I remember Wayne as an excellent driver who was very conscientious about his job which not only included looking after his passengers but also the bus he was driving at the time. He took great pride in doing his best. He had a great sense of humour and loved to be behind the wheel. I'm sure he will be missed. Once again my sympathy to the family.
Irene and family, My sincere and heartfelt condolences to you Brittany and Brandon. May the comfort of those around you help you through this difficult time. Sincerely, Barb Behan
