ROBERTS, Glyn
It is with great sadness but peace of heart that the family of Glyn Meredith Roberts announces his passing at the Didsbury Hospital on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the age of 89 years.
Glyn is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lois (nee Krebs);son, Richard (Linda, nee Brian); daughters, Darlene Massey-Hicks (Art), Cynthia; Daphne Walroth (Jim), and Chrystal (Terry Dickman); 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Glyn was pre-deceased by son, Dexter; sister, Enid; and brothers, Brynmore, Ira and Ifor.
Glyn lived in the Carstairs, Didsbury area all his life. As a young man he was a truck driver in Didsbury and later, with young family in tow, moved to the hamlet of Neapolis (east of Didsbury) where he operated a bulk fuel and gas station. In 1962 the family moved to Carstairs where Glyn worked at, and eventually owned the UFA Coop. Glyn was an avid sportsman who was an accomplished hockey player in his early years and later became an enthusiastic golfer and curler, which he continued to do until his early 80s. Playing bridge and billiards, watching and reading about sports and politics, as well as enjoying time with his grandchildren were Glyn’s favourite pastimes in later years.
Glyn was a well respected businessman and community minded volunteer. He was a charter member of the Didsbury Kinsmen Club, holding every office until the family moved to Carstairs. Glyn was one of several volunteers who worked tirelessly to build the Carstairs Golf Course, as well as serving on the executive committee over the years. Glyn was a prominent volunteer for the Carstairs Curling Club, and also served his community as Town Councilor. In 2012, Glyn was recognized by the Town of Carstairs for his many years of volunteer service to the community.
The Roberts family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Didsbury Hospital staff for their kindness and their compassionate care given to Glyn over the last several weeks.
A Celebration of Glyn’s Life will be held at Carstairs Community Hall on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Town of Carstairs ‘Welcome Sign Beautification Program in Memory of Glyn Roberts’ will kindly be accepted.
Our Deepest sympathy on the passing of Glyn, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
