CAMPBELL, Vivian Theoline (nee Lindvall)
April 13, 1919 – April 8, 2016
Our dearly loved Mom, Grannie and Great-Grannie passed peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2016 with her family present. She is survived by her children, Alex (Wendy), Linda Walker (Gerry), and Murray (Karin Kirkpatrick); grandchildren, Karin (Doug Skinnider), Steven (Sandra), Richard (Lynn), Mark Walker (Melissa Cannady), William, and Oliver; step-granddaughter, Kaelan McKechnie; and ten great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Herman Lindvall and Clara Lindvall (nee Odland); her husband of 55 years, Archie; and her grandson, Douglas Walker. Born in Lisbon, North Dakota, she moved at the age of three to Demaine, Saskatchewan where she grew up on the family homestead. A precocious and talented student, she completed Grade XII at age 16, moved to Saskatoon at age 17 to enroll in Business College, and then held a series of positions of increasing responsibility as an assistant in dentists’ and physicians’ offices. Joining Knox United Church when she moved to Saskatoon, she sang in its choir and met there her future husband, Archie Campbell. After Archie’s return from war service in 1945, they married and embarked on a long and happy marriage. Living in Saskatoon until health concerns arose, they moved to Calgary in 1997 to be nearer to Alex & Wendy and Linda & Gerry. Vivian gave her children idyllic and happy childhoods, and instilled in each of them and their children the certainty of her unconditional love and devotion. Active in many volunteer and community organizations in Saskatoon, in 1971 Vivian discovered Duplicate Bridge, which would be one of her great passions for the rest of her life. Becoming a Silver Life Master in 2009, she taught bridge in Saskatoon and Calgary for over 20 years, and kept active in her bridge club until well into her 90s. In Calgary she founded a charity bridge game that is still active which has raised many thousands of dollars for community support. Vivian was a great gardener, growing much admired gardens at her home on Clarence Avenue in Saskatoon and later at Dana Village in Calgary. An ardent and intrepid traveler, she and Archie travelled on dozens of trips; at the age of 83 she travelled to India with her grandson Douglas. Vivian was a loving, hardworking and joyous person who left the world a little better than she found it. She is and will be sorely missed.
A Funeral Service will be held at Deer Park United Church, 77 Deerpoint Road SE, Calgary, AB on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Vivian’s family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Wentworth Manor for their special care of Vivian for the last four years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vivian’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #200, 119 -14 Street NW, Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6.

Our sympathy in the loss of your Mom. We have happy memories of a good neighbor. Bunny, Don, Rhonda, and Carolyn
Dear Campbell Family My brother in law Brian Hensen shared a dining table at the Wentworth with Vivian. I would visit Brian at breakfast and after once a week so I had the opportunity to chat with Vivian over the past few years and sometimes help her back to her room after eating. I always thought she was a lovely cheery lady and it was sad to see her slide over the past several months. I am sorry for your loss.
