Adeline (Addy) Margaret Contenti

August 25th, 2016

CONTENTI, Adeline (Addy) Margaret

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Addy Contenti announces her passing on August 25, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Addy passed away peacefully at Three Hills Continuing Care. Addy was born on October 6, 1925 in Bellevue, AB to Victor and Pierina Blas, she was truly a “coal miner’s daughter”. She grew up in Blairmore along with her brother and sister, Peter and Annette. She attended business college in Calgary. It was in Calgary where she caught the eye of a young handsome sailor, who would become her husband. Florio (Dud) Contenti and Addy married on June 28, 1945 in Blairmore, AB where their oldest son, John was born. They moved to Drumheller in 1947 where they quickly proceeded to have 5 more children.

Addy was a hard working stay at home Mom until the youngest of her children began school. She re-entered the work force in the mid 60’s and went on to have a successful career with ICA Financial and Alberta Social Services. She gained many life long friends throughout her working days, many of whom she was still in contact with. Addy was not only a Mom and Career Woman, she was also a dedicated civic and community volunteer. She was a long time member of the Drumheller Library Noard, Tyrrell Museum and Hospital volunteer, and FCSS committee member, to name a few. She was Town Councillor for one term and then ran as Mayor, headed by her campaign manager, Nick Contenti. She served the Catholic Church devoutly and was a proud 70-year member of the CWL. She was also a long standing trustee with the Separate School Board and was instrumental in abolishing corporal punishment at St. Anthony’s school, sadly not in time for a few of her children.

Addy was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Peter; her husband, Dud; her special sister in-law, Madge Contenti; and sadly by 3 children, John, Inez and Mark. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Annette; and her 3 children, Laurie (Kim) Crosbie, Rocky (Stacey) Contenti and Adele (Alan) Sigfusson. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her 15 grandchildren, Lonie, Jason, John, Chrissy, Cody, Adriana, Katelyn, Nadia, Nikki, Rachel, Sophia, Liana, Erica, Alex and her namesake, Addy and their families, which included 22 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Rocky, Laurie and Adele wish to express their thanks to Corinne Gerling and Nick Contenti for the love and care they provided to Mom during those times they were not able to be with her.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 11:00 am.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Addy’s memory to the CWL c/o St. Anthony’s Rectory, 151 – 3 St W, Drumheller, AB, T0J 0Y4. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
